i have yokohama advan s4's as my "summer" tires....though they are really all season tires....decided this past winter to get dedicated winter tires and threw them on the stock rims.....world of difference in the snow......anyway...i used those advans for one winter....they gripped/performed pretty well for me....eventually got the snow set because my summer wheels are chrome and didn't want to keep mounting and dismounting one set of tires between two sets of rims.

I have the Continental DWS's on my Max (245/45-18 stock), and they are great - quiet, excellent in the wet, and great in the snow - I think I mentioned on another post somewhere, but I think onlinetires.com has them for the cheapest shipped (to CO at least) - I did a bunch of research as well before purchasing..great if you want only one tire for all seasons IMO.

You are right JD, very nice tire for the SL suspension anyway. I have these as my summers and had the car up to 160 Km/h and you cannot hear any road noise at all from these tires.

I would not recommend these as a winter tire even though they are all season rated as the edge of the tread is very rounded to provide a quiet and comfortable ride. This is the opposite of what you want for a snow tire. I was late getting my snow tires on last year and got caught in 3-4 inches of snow and the car was all over the road. Of course this all depends on how much snow you get in your area over the winter!!

I have heard plenty of people say that the Maxima is no good in snow as well but I would think they are referring to any all season tire. The Max is too big and bulky if you only have an all season.

I have set of Dunlop Graspic DS-2's as my winter tires. They are by no means a top of the line snow tire and are much cheaper than a Blizzak or a Yokohama. If I turn off the VDC and try to force the Maxi to lose control, it is still very hard. I have to get really aggressive in order get out of control. On the other hand, with the Michelin all seasons and VDC ON, I can easily force the car out of control with much less effort. I will say that from a stop, if you try to accelerate too fast with any snow tire you will spin the tires and go nowhere, but this is to be expected with 265 ponies going to the front tires on a slippery surface!!!

I recently installed a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus's on my 06 and it's only snowed an inch or two since I've had them but they are night and day difference to my Eagle F1 EMT's that were on the the car when I purchased it. I tried for the DWS but they are on national backorder and I couldn't wait to get tires.

I have the Conti DWS on my car. I've had them for about 6K miles now. They're great all around tires. I went through one winter season with these and they handle really well in the snow (although New England didn't get as much snow as usual this year). I did notice that my mpg dropped by about 1.5-2 mpg compared to the stock Eagle RS-A's. I used to get 25mpg highway, now I get about 23.3 according to the trip computer. I would strongly recommend these tires. For the price, they're hard to beat.

The Eagle F1 EMT's pulled into just about every road imperfection there was and my wife hated to drive it, but these Pilots don't even budge. Like I said before, they're night and day difference... much quieter and much smoother going down the road althought I've only had them for about 1,000 miles. I'm hoping I get the 45K out of them that they are warrantied for. Compared to the EMT's my mileage is actually about 1 MPG better and I do almost exclusively city driving.

I think reviews are a great help when buying tires. And I must say these tires have some great reviews. So, good choice. I am looking to go with the Michelin pilot sport a/s plus or the yokohama advan s4.

Price on the michelin plus is a big deterrent factor!

Yes, I'm interested in finding out about the Nankang Toursport 605. Got a price of $104 apiece from Town Fair and the salesman reved about them, but they are a 40K mile tire. The Continental ContiTouring tires that came with the car have gotten 75K miles in mixed driving, been good in the snow til this winter (They should have been replaced before it started.) Had to drve carefully in CT. Anyone?

You cant go wrong with the Bridgestone Potenza's. I put the RE960's on my car and love them. They are great all season tires and good for spirited driving. As for the other brands, be very wary of the Chinese tire brands. C&D gave them horrible ratings for grip and life.

I've had Michelin Primacy's for about 7,000 miles.

As mentioned, excellent tire but a huge draw back is a decline in gas mileage.

Don't know if anyone has experienced the same problem.

I have a set of RE960AS's on my 20AE. Pretty good tires, but they're aimed more toward the "performance" side of "performance all-season". They will cope with snow fairly well as long as it's not too deep.

PetitFrereMaxima - it's OK to use customer reviews of various tires as one of the tools for guiding your selection. But you do have to be a little careful about what you conclude from the things people write. Some people have agendas, and some don't have much clue about what's really important. Still others can't remember tire behavior well enough to do anything but compare the new tires today against the old tires they tossed out yesterday. Tire Rack does some (instrumented) testing of their own, as does Consumer Reports from time to time, and I'd assign more weight to their opinions than to most consumer write-ups.

SpacemanBL - when a retail sales guy raves about much of anything automotive, be a bit on your guard. The stars in his eyes are at least partly because they're envisioning some easy $ flowing into his pocket. Research and buy the best performance that you can afford. Let things like treadwear ratings, small price differences, and just about everything else become the "tie-breakers" among whatever tires make the performance cut. Once or twice per set of tires, you might be really glad you did.

If you use an agressive tread winter tire, Maximas' are very good in the snow. An all-season tire is no substitute for a winter tire and will not perform well in the snow regardless of the vehicle. Another reason not to run all-season tires is that I also want the performance of an actual 'summer' tire the rest of the year.

just got 4 new ones 2 weeks ago and first week mileage went down 2mpg! I bumped up pressure to 39 to make up for soft sidewall and now mileage is back to the crappy 21.5 mpg. quiet tire but would not buy again. tire place told me these are being closed out they don't even carry in their warehouse anymore. but they matched costco price which was nice. traction in rain is amazing though so excited for more rain storms to drive through!

why would the max suck in the snow? Wtf is that? where does that kind of **** come from?
I had nokyan hakkapelita 7 this year, electronic stability control didnt get on ONCE, all winter, and I drive mostly on country icy roads.

as for summer I have continental extremecontact DW. they grip way better than OEM.
