just installed fujita CAI- wierd noise

just put in my fujita intake, looks and sounds great, but when i really get on it and the RPMs jump up real fast, i hear a high-pitched whining/screech...i checked to see if it was rubbing up against anything, didnt seem to be that. i was thinking it could be the filter breaking in or something like that? any thoughts?

I also installed mine 2 days ago! Bought it from Raz and wow it sounds great. When I first installed it I went for a test drive then suddenly my car shuts down. I was so pissed then I went to take a look...bamm the CAI just detached lol....I guess I didnt screw it tight enough I also had to make a homemade rubber mount since someone forgot to ship it with the intake lol :P. Well overall everything is fine after that. Maybe you should reset or something...

The filter doesn't need to break in. The screeching you are hearing is the air being drawn into the intake. I put a Fujita on my wife's Altima, and a Nismo on my Maxima. The Fujita is MUCH louder than my Nismo...when you get on it, it sounds like a scalded cat!

put it in neutral and have someone push the gas while holding the break and listen and look under the hood. should help pin point the problem.

Make sure the sunroof is fully closed, then push and hold the tilt switch forward or close position for 2 or more seconds.

My first question to you would be what octane fuel are you using?

If engine knock is what you are actually hearing, then you have a lean condition. You are already using 93 octane, so we can rule that out. Engine detonation is caused by not enough fuel. I wouldn't think that adding just a CAI would cause a lean condition in the engine. I have a Nismo, and I haven't experienced any detonation. SOME detonation is normal...so I'm told. Excessive detonation is not normal, and is harmful to the engine.

I was reading about this problem recently on a tuner magazine, that a cai can trick the MAF sensor and trigger knock sensor,or cause air/fuel ratio confusion.i didnt had no codes or ses light on though, and like i said the engine knocking is not there no more.....i just wanted to hear some different opinions. thanks for your help Hawaii.

Back when I was running my supercharged Mustang, it was known that if you over-oiled your K/N filter, then you could end up getting the MAF sensor coated in oil...thus fouling out the sensor. Just another thought.
