Effects of freezing weather

Temps dropped to 27 degrees overnite Saturday into Sunday. On Sunday morning, the fob would not unlock the doors and the black buttons on the door handles would not unlock the doors. No reaction at all when fob or buttons pushed.

Finally got the drivers door to unlock with the fob key. Then car would not recognize the fob inside the car and had to use the key to start the car. Let it warm up with the heater going full blast for 15 minutes. Then the fob and door buttons worked fine.

This morning, temp was again 27 degrees and doors unlocked and car started with the fob. No problem at all.

Wonder how the drop in temp on Saturday night rendered the electronics for the locks and ignition inoperable??

Anybody ever had this experience??

Maybe a lot of humidity where you live so there would be a lot of what in/around all the mechanisms in your doors. If you haven't changed your battery yet, then the original might be on it's way out. If you haven't changed the battery in your FOB, then that may be on it's way out as well. A combination of all three could bring you to where you were when you couldn't get in your car.

Only issue I have so far is the door handles would stay stuck open.

The CVT fluid turns into tar at that temp, normally the car pulls away on it's own in Drive but not in the extreme cold

No wonder the locks didnt work. They lubed them with CVT fluid and it turned to tar.

What does this have do do with the door locks.

But I havent experienced any problems yet. IIRC, someone else had a problems when it was real cold. I'll see if I can find it.

True. Mine stay open. A passenger got in and shut the door. I started to pull off and the door flew open. And the windows freeze shut.

The 07/08 Maxima have the slot for the fob on the left of the steering wheel, that is there for this reason, if the battery dies or weakens the fob is slipped into the slot and the chip is recognized by the car
