Help!!! Car will not accelerate.

While driving home my 06 maxima stopped accelerating. When the car is in drive it will only creep forward. When I press the gas while in drive neither the rpms nor the speedometer moves. The rpm guage will move only when the car is in Neutral. Both the battery light and the brake light are on and the transmission is stuck in 5th gear. Ive already had the tranny rebuilt twice and never has it presented with these symptoms. Any clues to what may be going on?

I had that exact same problem. At the time, it was my EGR that was going. The second time that happend....... YEARS later, but recently, it was my alt that was going. So I would assume that there is a sensor going back possibly on your car. And you said you are stuck in 5th gear and you just got your tranny serviced, hmmmmm.

Could be the electronic throttle sensor is bad. Had this happen on my wife's Kia with similar probs. Car goes into limp home mode to keep the car from spontaneously accelerating. Park car, disconnect negative battery terminal for a few mins, restart car, drive to dealer.

Camshaft position sensor most likely. Computer dsicovers a failed part and puts the car in idiot mode. Don't know why battery and brake lights are on though- did you mean "check engine" light perhaps?

Update...

Turns out it was the alternator. But my brother in-law ended up paying 2100 dollars to fix both the alternator and replace the valve body again. On top of that now when you turn the wheel their is one loud clunk coming from the passenger and i noticed alot of abnormal wear on the outside of the tire. This car is really becoming a P.I.T.A.! Thanks for all the help

I have an 07 and when I first start driving it, it will get to around 30 mph and then the rpm's will drop like I'm not pressing the gas. Then it will pick back up and I can stay around 25 mph. However; If I stomp it then it from dead stop it will gain speed like normal and never drop rpm's. I do not have any warning lights on. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

2005 Nissan Maxima won't accelerate

I have a 2005 Nissan Maxima. My wife was driving it, she said she heard a loud noise like she hit something, then she smelled an electrical burning smell.

Now the ABS light is on, the low fuel light is on, emergency brake light is on. The car starts and drives, but won't accelerate.

I called the Nissan service shop. they can't get me in for four days.

Any ideas??? Thanks

throttle body is another area where you loose horse power.
try reseting ( TSP or TPS ) on throttle body. its some steps you have to follow..

Check your engine codes then you'll likely need to swap out one or both of your Camshaft sensors (to right of the engine and left of the battery). This fixes the "stuck in 5th gear" issue where you can't accelerate at low speeds.

The other possibility is a speed/ABS sensor issue - usually the rear right wheel. They get rust from the wheel hub which keeps it from detecting the wheel spin, so it thinks you're always slipping and the traction control keeps your RPM really low. To test this, disconnect one of the speed sensors and try driving the car.

The easier sensor to reach is the front passenger one which is to the left of the engine under the long plastic cover. Try disconnecting it there which will disable your ABS when you turn on the car. If it then accelerates fine, your issue is likely one of the sensors or dirty wheel hubs.
