Where did you put your HID balasts?

I installed HID kits for the headlights and foglights in my '05 maxima this weekend. I don't like where I've put the balasts and wanted to see where you guys have put them? ( two balasts per side ).

Also, for some reason, my foglights work fine when turning on the headlights, but if I go to highbeam and back, they never come back on when coming off highbeam. I have to turn the lights off and turn them back on to get the foglights back. thoughts?

thanks.

Personally.... I wired the foglights (HID) seperately.... with my own relay and switch.... because they wouldn't work properly with the factory wiring... I think it's because the lights are controlled by the computer and not old fashioned relays? Please correct me if I'm wrong. After I separated they from the factory wiring they work perfectly. HID's are always "not firing up" all the time.... just turn them off and back on again and they will come on. It's an aggravation... but it works. My advise is to separate your fogs from the factory wiring.

Oh yeah.... I strapped my foglight ballasts to a crossmember under the radiator. They are water proof... so I wasn't worried about water. Now... for the headlights... I just jammed them in the small space left behind the headlight housing when you reinstall the housing. Prolly not the best idea... but I haven't had any trouble yet.

^^ I did the same. Attached the HID fog ballasts to the headlights with heavy duty velcro and 3M automotive tape. Not a problem yet and when I checked on them nothings melted so far...

slim ballasts are easier to work with if you got those.

Hid kits are crap, I ended up removing all that and going back stock. And the extra heat burned my fog reflectors.....

I taped the ballasts on the metal bumber side part.

My stock setup above was stock 4300k hid and stock foglamp.

I bought 6000k hid to replace stock 4300k. Then bought slim ballasts with 6000k hid for the fogs. Did this a while ago. Just showing you before and after pics of where I installed my ballasts.

I hope it helps more.

BOOTZ, mine has been fine. No single problems at all.

Well, when I first installed my fogs, both fogs would never come on at the same time at startup. I would cut off my car and try two or three times to get both fogs to light up at same time. Annoying!!! I realized it was because of my stock battery which was not powerful enough to stand the sudden power-draw by the fog hids at startup. So, I went to autozone and bought the most expensive and most powerful battery allowed and available for our cars. And now, it comes on automatically with no single problem and they are as bright as diamond. Love them!

As for the brand, I have totally forgotten. But I bought my setup of hids and ballasts from this org member who sells hids on the other org, www.6thgen.org. Lol, I totally forgot his name. I am on the run now to step out of the house and I cannot even remember! Ugh!!! If I remember, I would edit this post and tell you. Someone can tell his name. If you contact him, what he sells is what I have.

Maxpower maybe?

It could be my battery though. I think I'm ready for a new one.

BOOTZ..., Yep! Its Maxpower. Good price and I think he told me lifetime warranty. I don't quite remember, but I am thinking that is what he told me. I might be wrong, but for the price, I don't think I would be asking for warranty replacement if it goes out now. It seems to be super reliable and great. Contact him.

I don't find my HID's any brighter ( and possibly not even as bright ) as the halogens I had. I know this makes no sense whatsoever, but that's what it seems like. I don't know why it would be though. I got 5000K bulbs ( headlights and fogs ), it's a brand new battery and the alternator is strong. I'm quite disappointed as I'd been really excited about doing this.
