06 maxima possible purchase

Hey guys

Thinking about purchasing an 06 max found at a local dealer today. Every option minus navi.

What are some things i should look for and what are some known issues? I currently own a 5.5 6 speed so not sure if the issues if any are the same as previous gen. Has anyone experienced consumption like 5.5 gen; i know some has mention about it on a 04 max but not an 06.

I would like to purchase the vehicle today so more info provided would be appreciated.

Thank you

You didn't mention the mileage and price. That could help, if it's a bad price someone here will raise the red flag I'm sure. Maybe not by the end of the day though...next time post this up a day or two before you want to buy.

As far as what to look for, it's a used car, look for EVERYthing that you can use to your advantage when negotiating, and identify the deal breakers before you secretly fall inlove with the car...oh, BTW, don't fall in love with the car...it will mess up your judgment during negotiation...remember, it's business.

Bald/sh!tty tires, they need to cut you a break. Door dings, dents, scratches, another break. Check drivability, go over a bumpy road, brick road would be superb in emphasizing suspension issues/noises. Get it on the highway, and fell a little hard accelerating, breaking, see if it's responding well. Get it to cruzing speed, and hold steady...

Look for leaks, check under the hood...

The known problems on 6th gens are the timing tensioners and the 5sp automatic transmision going bad. If its a SE more than likely it has the 5sp, if its a SL model then it has the 4sp.

See the maintainence history. If it is a SE then be prepared to change the valve body in the near future. It may go bad or may not go bad. If you want to put up a link to see what all the car has, maybe we can help you out.

I thought about suggesting that myself, but maybe not such a good idea. What if someone else sees the thread, goes in and gets the car before this guy gets it...It's kind of like ebay auction...if you want to keep the bidding low, don't show the auction to 10,000 active users on a forum...

$15,560 + all the extra dealer fees might come out to be $17000. I wouldn't pay that for a 5yr old car with 56k miles. I would pay around 12k from a private party. I think a brand new 2011 Altima is 19,500.

Plus 1 on this, I would search the board before you buy this car, look for issues that frequent on the board. For $15,560+ you can get a lot more car elswhere

Right, but tax tag and title the altima would be more like $23,000...oh and stripped down. This 06 has all the options but Nav...and it's a Max, not an altima.

That said, I would venture into negotiations for that Max. for $15560 internet price, considered with other variables including bluebook comparisons, I'm sure this car is negotiable down to $14000 without too much hassle. Does that change your perspective even a little?

Not true at all... i have a SL with a 5spd auto.....?

and Honestly i would not buy the car at all... i got my car for free than if they want them much for a 06.. my car was one owner no scratches or dings for almost 10k cheaper run from that deal...trust me it took me forever to find my maxima (smoke grey, navi, black interior, and other cool options. Do not rush into a car... trust me
