OP, really...do a little more reading and research before you run out and buy a CAI.

Building your own really isn't that hard.

And it will save you a good bit of money.

If you'd like, I can even piece one together for you. I'll give you the links to everything you need.

K&N is a definite no-no, because you have to oil the filter, which runs the risk of clogging up your MAF with dirty, oily goodness. If you're absolutely insistant on buying a pre-fabbed one, go with R2C or Fujita.

Nismo and Injen are way, way too overpriced, and AEM is almost up there.

Yea the air box, not the filter was directly in front of the MAF there was a tube and another ~5" of space before the filter.

I have so much going on no time for researching and reading pages of info. I can't read bits and peices tho. whitch is why I ask the community to help me out with there current knowledge they have. So it's not that I'm lazy and not wanting to put forward the effort to learn and read its a time issue. I'm always on the org on my iPhone so you know how it is

Well then your never going to learn, end up making decisions that are all over the place, and do the same mods multiple times over and over again. It happens all the time because of lack of knowledge.

Not on my car.

FWIW, I have a velocity stack between my filter and MAF, so it gives the running tube a little more length.

I see at least 4-5" from the maf to the actual filter that sits in the middle of that air box. Never seen under the hood of a stock g35 with air box. You should definitely drill some holes in that air box for a GAB, it sits in a good location to get some "cold" air.

^ That's not my setup.

That's one I pulled off of Google Images.

I've got pretty much the same exact setup, but I have an AEM dryflow filter + velocity stack stuck to the end of my MAF. Basically, the cone filter sits in the same position the stock airbox did.

Here, ill take a picture of mine. This cost 60 bucks, filter and all.

i talked to a few performance shops and as to the placement of the maf, 6" after the filter is what everyone said is a rule of thumb for all cars.

all i used was a huge spectre filter, (good enough for large V8's) an elbow, and high quality stainless steel. I could buff it to a mirror finish, (shinnier than that elbow) but wasn't all that interested in it.

30 for the filter and 30 for the piping, hose clamps, grommet, longer vacuum hose and couplings.
