Finally managed to program my Homelink!

I was trying to troubleshoot why the Homelink was not working in another car, so I erased the program in the Maxima. Since then, for the next year, I could not program the Homelink feature for the life of me The problem was that the Homelink module could NEVER pick up the signal from the hand held remote.

So, here is what I did to get it to work.

1) The car was running
2) I moved the hand held remote back and forth behind the rear view mirror. The radio receiver is hidden inside the mirror, and no where close to the buttons on the Homelink module

The battery inside the remote was probably weak as well, but I tried a new one from last year with no success.

Anyhow, I'm ecstatic that I can now open my garage doors with the homelink module. Hopefully this post helps somebody.

Cheers,

Ming

If you read my post, I ran into some problems with the generic instructions from Homelink.com. Last year, I tried to programming my units for so long that my garage door opener overheated.

My post has more to do with tricks for those that have problems programming their Homelink module. If it is not value to you, please move on

Try a new battery for your hand held garage door opener, and cycle the garage door opener between the glass and your rear view mirror with the car running.

I think the HomeLink radio receiver is in the right rear of your rear view mirror, so try to move your garage door opener around in that area!

Good luck!

I've always been able to easily program my Homelink to my Chamberlain GDO. The reason I say "always" is because I have two GDOs. One of them always remains linked to the Homelink (unless I disconnect the car battery for service), however, the other GDO unit seems to always loose it's connection to Homelink. I haven't done a spectral analysis in the neighborhood..but I believe the unit always losing the connection periodically trys to "roll" onto a similar frequency of one of my neighboor's units. Though the GDO and the handheld controller seem to stay linked for a year plus..

When I get around the reprogramming the Homelink for this particular GDO...it only lasts for about 2-3 weeks before it looses the connection again. I think its a combination of an old, week rolling technology of my GDOs and the Nissan Homelink is probally junk too. BTW, my car is an 2004...maybe the Homelink hardware has improved since then.
