Passenger Fog Lamp Keeps Blowing

Hey guys -

I'm on my 3th passenger fog lamp on my 05 SE since August and I came to find that it blew again tonight. I've taken it to the dealer twice (still under warranty) and they can't seem to find anything wrong so they just replace the bulb with a new one. The current bulb lasted about 3 weeks and now it's gone. What could the problem possibly be? Some wiring problem? I'd like to figure it out and get it taken care of before the warranty expires. Thanks in advance!

i've have the same problem except its with both my lamps. i've bought over 6 bulbs and have constantly been replacing them. I had a problem with my motorcycle once where the wires were taught and would eventually twist out the bulb and cause it to vibrate and crack inside its harness. And i notice it on other cars and bikes when i see one light beam shaking or vibrating excessively on the road uncharacteristic of the road surface.. But that is not the case with the maxima. I can only deduct that there is a voltage incompatibility or a surge that gets through the fuze box. I haven't actually tired correcting the problem as I just stopped replacing them. its not worth all the money when I don't live anywhere that there is fog anymore. Nissan Fail.. i guess you could put in a smaller amp fuse so instead of replacing the lamps you could just replace the fuze, thats how its supposed to work anyway.

Thanks man, I'll give that a try.

As an update, I removed the fuse and put it back in (I knew it wasn't burned through since the other fog still worked) but when I went to turn the lights on to see if anything changed, the bulb actually came on - albeit not as bright as it should have been. Could this be a grounding issue then, or some sort of corrosion? Clearly the bulb itself has not burned out. I have to admit my knowledge of electricals isn't very strong.

Only thing that worked for me was an upgrade to HID kits. I went through too many PIAA yellow bulbs. The kit was less than what I spent on bulbs. Yellows going strong a few years now.

To piggyback off this thread, why would the fuse keep burning on mine? I replace the 15a fuse but the second I turn on the fogs, POP goes the fuse

What happens?

Sounds like you have a shorted wire somewhere. Pull your bulbs out and see if it still happens.

I only had the problem when I was using aftermarket bulbs. Once the stock ones went back in, it never happened again. I gave up and just left it stock.

Ok so I had the same issue with my 04 max SE non HID. It kept burning up bulbs for no reason. I checked the wiring inside the housing and noticed that the wire covering was worn off from vibration maybe, but it was shorting out because it was touching the bulb. I basically put a new connector on and heat shrinked the wire to protect it. Since I redid the wiring, it has yet to burn up again. Its been going for 6 months now (knock on wood)

On my SL I got HID's installed, I re-grounded the black wire to the chassis and that solved the problem. Apperently the harness doesn't have a good enough ground for the bulbs.
