Isn't thE altima and Nissan almost identical in power, engine, performance, torque, suspension and etc.... So how would it be different to buying a Maxima compared to an Altima? I personally like the 6thgen body, headlight, tail lights, 6spd manual and Elite package makes it unique. Just my preference

he said se-r...i dont know what/if they did anything different to teh trans, but i'd spend more money on a se-r than a max all day, without question

And I would save the few thousands that the maxima would cost less than the altima and build my own beast. The SE-R only have a few more hp more than the maxima and with a simple spacer, BOP, and light weight crank pulley you're up to par with it, and if I'm not mistaken the 6thgens produces the most crank out of all of them at 255torque. But I could be wrong. Correct me if I am though...

they are similar in power, the SER looks better IMO

this, i believe the OP said paying about $10K... for that price i'd rather spend that on the altima n not 6th gens... my preference though

Spending 10K on a 6thgen is like putting $20 in a vending machine for a bag a chips and getting back $4. That's way too much to spend on these cars especially seeing that the nissan value is depreciating drastically. The SE-R does look better as far as the rims, front and rear bumper and gril. But it's automatic and for that reason alone I'll get the maxima. And the fact that it's cheaper. The 6.5gens can be compared except it's a tad slower and only come in auto. I want a car to drive, not one that drives me

eff the power to the crank means absolutely nothing and eff what mods can bring em up to par because what you can do to one you can do to the other.... im not sure if the OP is into "building" something...... havent seen any "built" 6th gens here... anyways i was saying if that what the OP wants to spend, I think the altima is more appealing... if its about "building", i'd def not recommend either... get a 240

Don't be popping blood vessels man, it's just a discussion. His eyes is already on the 6thgens so I'm sure this discussion is pointless. It's going to be hard to find a low mileage SE-R with no issues for under 10K because it hold the re-sale value very well. If he's on a budget then obviously he's going to get the maxima. And as far as the 240 goes, that's a 2dr, it's a lil hassle when you have a family for most people and I could be wrong but I never see these cars driving in the winter.

well im def not "popping any blood vessels" thought this was a simple discussion, if the main purpose of the thread was to say "well its the OP's decision" we couldve done without the thread as im sure we are all aware that it is his decision lol

Technically you're wrong because this thread is what initiated the discussion. But I'm just defending the 6thgen. Even though love my 6thgen I'd love to buy the 5.5gen as a 2nd car and stealth it out with a turbocharge. They look sick when they are lowered on them concave style or vossen rims.

Just buy a 4th gen(97-98) ....or a 5th gen (00-01). Less hassle A LOT more reliable.

My 05 5 speed auto has 100,000 miles on it. I have had zero issues and have just done the scheduled maintenance. .

you know i find it real funny when a whole 3 guys () call me a troll because i stick up for myself and the little guy who doesn't deserve your badgering, when in fact its you coming on the 6th gens section to do nothing but stir up ****. you say F a 6th gen then why the **** are you in the 6th gen section? oh thats right we already when over that, you are all trolling pieces of garbage. your only place here is to dis on us to make your small appendage a bit larger.

leave it to the 4th gen second/third hand maxima trolls to hate on their own brand because they have envy issues with the newer models. i mean do you really think it isn't so obvious? say what you will, if you had more cash you'd be in a 6th gen. I see more loyalty in the brief minutes i've spent in the honda forums after a google search takes me to one of their threads. You are all pathetic, Go get some sunshine.

my first car was a 4th gen, I had it in 2003 and loved it, but im not too prideful to say when the 6th gen came out in 2004 i had new car envy like a poor fool. so i saved up and bought it. So im not hating on 4th gens, im hating on the owners that obviously can't appreciate their cars anymore and find fun in visiting the 6th gen section to bash on the transmission or whatever they can think of out of jealousy. And in a few years when another car (maybe a maxima) comes out that looks sweet as hell, im going to buy that. Its called upgrading. i don't see you with a flip phone from the 90's but that's only because you can afford it. we see right through it. don't bother trying to defend yourself. I love 4th gens because when i think of them i have fond memories of my own and its nostalgic. But the honest truth is if i was still driving one I'd be wishing i was in something newer.

your recent posts are worthless here in the 6th gen section, and you clutter up good threads of people who aren't asking for all this negativity, and im sorry to be a part of it, but the truth needs speaking. if your such a fan of the 4th gen then stay there. irregardless of what section your trolling you are on a maxima forum bashing maximas... like your not a troll... i mean i wanna laugh my butt off but the sadness of it all out-weights the funny...

on a side note, your max is looking so good man, you really do have the best looking max i've ever seen. love that bugatti theme you have with the paint scheme. If i wasn't spending all my money on my education i'd be looking into a suit like that. just counting the days for that degree aka $$$$$

Ya'll hate 6thgen, I love mine, even in traffic. It all depends on what you do to it, how much issues you go through with it, how much you enjoy driving it. I look beyond the issues that others have and even though I have a few I know it's due to the modifiications I added to it. All I know is by the time I'm done with this car I would of gotten my moneys worth because I drive this ish daily, take it to car shows, race it and it's winter driven.

yeah, i hear you on that one. I drive the crap out of mine. Im wearing it in like a good catchers mit. Im sure i've already taken a few years off its life, and im going to take a few more. ITS A CAR and im born to have fun in them. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT! haha

im at 123k as of now, and i haven't had any trans problems. not even the occasional shudder. if it dies, than fine, but every car has its problems. I've had friends with cars that don't have any common problems crap out on them. like i said, before its about 3% of people who have the 5at who have problems. and its usually the ones who have problems that join the site looking for answers. So you have an unfair melting pot here. And the simpletons who can't make heads from tails or see the bigger more logical picture are the ones creating the transmission monster here. It is entertaining at times, BUT its maddining that they actually DO discourage people from buying 6th gens.

Let me spell it out to the not-so-bright people who think they are "helping" you here, a member of maxima.org discouraging people from buying maximas. you say oh buy a 4th gen. ok, some people don't wanna buy an old car. PERIOD, when i buy a car i don't want a OLD ONE. i want a new one with side airbags, safety ratings, and latest tech, a nice look, ect... for most people cars are an extension of their image. why the HELL would i spend money on a car 13 years old?! so your solutions are crap. your logic is illogical, and the only thing your doing is causing people to disregard the 6th gen and look into another make. so instead of them driving maximas you have them driving hondas. Thats not fair and you people should NOT be a part of Maxima.org!!

04 se 145k and still strong. So far I've replaced a alternator, cam shaft sensor , pcv valve, spark plugs, and pretty much just regular maintenance. But I wouldn't buy a USED 6th gen unless they had all the maintenance records for it. Just save another 2 or 3k and buy a newer one with a cvt.

Wow... a bit of responses since I last checked lol.

Well... my bro-in-law went ahead and picked up a 6th gen without me first looking at it... 05 5AT w/ 110k miles for... get this... $9600!

I was at work when he said he was going to buy it - had a cousin (ricer who thinks he knows about cars cause he installed shocks and rims) go look at it with him... I texted him to talk down the price cause that is a rip off. Even if he was in love and the car was flawless.. Absolute max s/b $9k and I should really look at the car before he buys (I'm no mech engineer but I know my way around a car). But ultimately the choice was his on what to do. He didn't respond but sure did update his FB with pictures...

Looks nice but I told him he can't come to me with problems... apparently there's a noticeable coolant leak...

9.6k is actually a pretty good price, if that was out the door a phenomenal price. the kelly blue book value of what he bought is 10.6k The coolant leak is a no no, but an easy, inexpensive fix. As long as he got a warranty with it, he did good.

I disagree. Those cars came out too long ago to still be selling for that price, to back it it's a 5spd, over 110K miles on it and it's probably not the elite package. That was too much but hopefully the car gives him negative problems in the near future because that would be another one added to the 6thgen hater list

I wouldn't even pay 8.5K for it. I'd buy a slightly older one and save a few G's and use the money I save to repair and/replace anything if necessary. This is something cheap I just found
