Full-Throttle Hesitation
Full-Throttle Hesitation
Hey guys, i have a unique problem, where as when i "floor" my 2007 3.5se (63k miles) seems it doesnt pull as hard as if I just press the gas maybe 75% down, car is bone stock, minus a K&N filter. No engine lights are on, and also just to mix the problems pot, if the car sits for 2-3 days, on first drive I get a nice sulfur smell. The smell bothered me so much, i have been to the dealership twice, but they said everything checked out ok. To date, I have had a intake cleaning, and fuel injector cleaner ( just the bottle kind from parts store), any ideas or is this normal? Ima first time Nissan/Maxima owner. Thanks for your time guys
My apologies if this is not the right protocol.

if you haven't ever noticed this before, than you must have had a car with a smaller engine and less displacement. its a tad but more prevalent in larger engined cars.
Also about flooring it, you must be mistaken, or your car has serious problems. If your really going faster at 3/4 throttle rather than open throttle, than you have some engine management problems. However i think your expectations are just a little two high for open throttle vs 3/4 making it seem slow.
Hesitation
Hey bud, thanks for the info, your sulfur comment makes sense. I have owned several mustangs, but the first thing I do is take the cats off, x pipe, bbk cold air, etc. etc. I apologize for the lack of detail I offered in my post, what i really meant is theres a hesitation at full throttle, seems theres no hesitation at about 75%, also when "floored" seems the car is "bogging" down, but I dont notice the bog at 75% throttle. Hope this explains my situation a little better. Thanks agian for your help, I really do appreciate your time.
ALL cars will get a surfer smell if you go hot rodding before the catalytic converter gets hot enough to do the conversions. that is unburned hydrocarbons you are smelling. your cats need to be hot and warmed up before they can do their jobs. this is why all cars smell smoggy on startup.

The CVT reacts to throttle input a bit different than the autotragic does.
OP
Pressing the peddle down to the floor should take the rpm to red line instantly if you are at highway speed. But if you back off the throttle to about 75%-80% and bring the RPM down to about 5800rpm and the car pulls harder. Have you noticed the click/pop/resistance at about 75%-80% throttle? That is close to the sweet spot. If it doesn't act like that then get it looked at. Other wise get used the smooth acceleration.
+1 to everything except for the bold.

Hesitation
Thanks Don for the info, Seems the car is pretty smooth at 3/4 throttle. Take off is where the Hesitation at full throttle really seems to be noticeable, Also if I matt the gas at take off, the car starts out strong, then all of a sudden (and i really mean all of a sudden, maybe 1 sec after pressing the gas pedal down), its like the gas isnt making it to the motor. Hard to explain, let me give a example. The car will not spin on a wet road, as soon as you floor the gas (Traction control off), you get a lil wheelspin, I dont even think the tire does a full rotation, then it just bogs down, no spinning, not pulling. Seems like the gas gets shut off for 1/2 second, revs drop, then comes back, but the revs are so low it cant spin, or even. Silly question but really my question, can these cars spin tires or at least on a wet road? The only reason Im sure theres something wrong with the car, the first 3-4 days i had the car, when you took off aggressivel, you had to hold on the wheel, car had some good power, but now its totally differnent, wow sorry for this novel I wrote! Thanks again guys
Definitely get it checked out asap. Easy for the Max to get tire spin even with CVT transmission. The key phrase is when you first got it everything seemed normal and now it seems a bit bogged down. But I'm reading over your post but can't figure out what it may be. If you can, try and get dealer to put the latest flash on your CVT. I had it done and it makes a noticeable difference to me...really when accelerating froma full stop. Holds that first gear from a full stop longer than it did before.
