HELP all tranny gurus please

Hey guys I too am new to the forum, well with that being said I just recently purchased a 2005 Nissan Maxima for what i thought was a hell of a deal (2500) car is a clean title with 135000 miles and it too has the plague transmissions symptoms as many of the users here. And I have read all the pages but am still confused for the scale seems to jump from side to side when choosing what option to go with. My car mainly has the hard shifts from 1-2 and reversed to drive and occasionally when down shifting from high speeds. What would be the best option for me, I'm located in Miami Fl and am having a hard time finding a reputable shop to the Transgo kit which is why i'm leaning towards either a re manufactured valve body from sunbelt valve bodies or new OEM from nissan -____- . Help highly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance
Jorge

Have the car scanned for trouble codes. Honestly, I would not bother with the transgo kit. Just replace the valve body. Before you order it, though, see if you can have it checked out to ensure that everything else in the transmission is still ok. A couple of people on this board have recently had success with the sunbelt valve body, and many others have had success with the OEM nissan valve body. It's really your choice. Compare prices and availability and go from there.

Good luck man, and good find as well. $2500 is still an excellent deal for an '05, even with a transmission issue...

Yeah, I had the exact same problem as you. Great when cold but the problems showed up as soon as the car warmed up. I waited too long and by the time I brought it in to be fixed, the transmission had developed other problems apart from the valve body, and the whole thing had to be rebuilt. Timing is key, I guess. For peace of mind, I would just go for the VB replacement knowing that I could easily get another 100,000 miles out of the car.

While this may very well be an isolated incident, a poster on this site, I believe Athlon Omega, did the transgo shift kit fix, and his car ran well for a few months. After that, his problems resurfaced. I can't seem to find the thread right now though, but his experience is just good to know for reference...

Edit: here is the thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/6th-generat...ode-death.html

The 07+ models use CVT transmissions and they will not work with 04-06 vehicles (of course, anything is possible if you put the right amount of money into it, but I've never seen anyone discuss that particular swap).

And does the valve body have to be OEM cause I ve also read bout sunbelt valve bodies or revmax only reason why im asking is cause they are more affordable or should I save up and go with a OEM my fear is damaging the transmission so bad that it needs a full rebuilt. Thanks for the replies all help is greatly appreciated.

No problem. A few people on here have used the sunbelt valve body and have had good results, so I would say it is safe to go that route, especially if you can get a better price on it. The Level 10 valve body is another option, but I'm not sure what the current price of that one is as compared to the OEM one.

^^^^The overall consensus seems to be to replace your valvebody with a rebuilt and modified unit from Level 10 or the upgraded OEM replacement (the part number will differ according to your VIN). I happened upon an unused OEM replacement on eBay for $350. However, sometimes the tranny is damaged from the original bad valve body and a rebuild is in order, especially if it has been driven many miles with the symptoms.
