Valve body or tranny gone?
New Member here... Really enjoy theknowledge shared on the board, My question is very specific and can't be foundthrough a normal search, We have a 2006 Nissan Maxima, it began lurching, andjerking about 3 months ago very severely when going from second to third gear.We continued to drive and had the dealership run a diagnostic and they said itwas the 5th gear and transmission was going out. After researching we establishedbased on symptoms that it was the valve body. However this am the car won'tmove?!?!? the RPM's rev up high... the fluid level is fine... could this be thetransmission at this point or is this the final symptom of the valve body. Mindyou each time a diagnostic is done that's another $100.00... Any help would begreatly appreciated.

Good. The verdict from the FSM for the codes pulled is "Replace the control valve assembly." That's the valve body. The earlier the better, else continued use of the car is likely to result in the damage the entire tranny.

So I have a few follow up questions, first off if the transmission was gone would it throw different codes? secondly, I have read the post and seems that some guys DIY the valve body (can you get it locally or would it have to be ordered from level10 or similar). Thanks again for the rapid response...

I had this happen to my car a few years ago after I had dropped it off to get my axles changed. The car would rev but would not move. If I gave it gas and locked the wheel right or left, it would creep forward slightly and then stop and roll back.
Had to have it towed to my transmission shop. Trans guy said that the mechanic managed to wreck my differential while replacing the axles. He did say that the axles gave him a hard time to remove, so I'm not sure if he was hammering away at it or what
Fixed it to the tune of $1800. Lesson learned. Never took the car to an unknown mechanic again.
Since you have relevant codes, though, let's hope that your problem is valve body related as Costee has suggested. If you present them with a lower price, some local dealerships are willing to work with you and match that price. Good luck man.
