Decent summer tire with good tread life?
I bought continental extremecontact DW last summer, and they are almost half used by now. Will probably be shot after 2 summers, and I don't drive that much.
They were much better than the oem tires though.

Too expensive for me, I mostly just commute. It's fun to accelerate and not slip, but honestly, I would rather have a tire that lasts much longer. Not worth it for me to have a high performance tire like this.

What's a good summer tire that will last a long time, and maybe get better fuel econ? And be quiet.

Thanks

Get the originals - Goodyear RSA. They're the only tires that I had for a full 60k, and you are never get them this cheap any-wheres else.

not going to get more grip for the money I guess?
I don't feel like going back to rsa, but more grip means less life.... sucks to pay 1000$ for a set that only lasts 2 summers.

BFG GForce Sport Comp 2. I have had them and the grip is second to maybe the Pilot SS's.

I have the 235's

I hear ya! Up here in Canada, I am looking at $1200 to replace my summer tread. That is a lot of money. I am going back to the RSAs this year. Just can't justify paying $1200 for tires, especially 245/45/18s. It's ridiculous in this day-an-age when most new sedans are running 18" rims.

might go back to rsa when those are done I guess, will see.
Those continental extremecontact dw are damn good at grip though, way better than rsa. They will just not slip in hard cornering.
Problem is I cruise 99% of the miles, and I hard corner 1% of the time, so 99% of the time, I am running performance tires for nothing and wearing them fast and not using them....

1200$ for 2 summers is not worth the improvement to me.
RSA lasted 3 summers. Still not very good.
What about those bridgestone ecopias? my gf has those on her rav4.

I have no clue about the Bridgestones. They could be good or not. That said, the harder the tire, and subsequent less grip, will invariably mean that the tire will last longer. They'll also be a bit louder too, which is kind of a drag, but as you alluded to, money don't grow on trees, so I'll be going back to the RSAs. On that note, I currently have a set Falken 912s on the car. This is the 3rd summer for them and they are completely bald. Two summers is what I got out of them, which is total horse-****, but it is what it is.

My winter tires, on the other hand, are as old as the car is, which is 7 years. They are Dunlops, so I was thinking I might give them ago, but they're pricey too. Consumer Reports rates these tires (http://www.continentaltire.ca/www/ti...ontact_en.html) as being very good overall, but they're pricey as well. There's no two ways about it, she's crapshoot, Kryogen!

winter tires I run nokyan hakkapelita 7, best tire I ever had. Unlike grip on the dry summer road, grip on ice is critical for me (my life is worth more to me than tire wear), so I don't really care how much they cost and how long they last.
Summer tires are different, any decent modern summer tire will keep you on the road and allow you to brake properly at legal speeds, so having expensive tires to cruise at highway speeds is more like a brag thing I guess.

Not summer tires but I also just bought Eagle RSAs. Question for you regarding the continentals. Have you noticed that they are more prone to sidewall bubbles? Maybe it's just me but I've been through a few and some of my friends have the same issue. They drive Audi's and that's what they come with.

I have not noticed any sidewall issues.
I notice that the contis are listed as new on tire rack, maybe new model? might try this next summer, only 30$ more per tire vs rsa....
