Castrol transmax high mileage (green bottle) is rated for matic K. I use it and it seems to work fine. Runs $7/quart at Autozone.

Listen to experience in this matter. 6 posts and very good ones I'm sure, however there is a + 1,300 post thread that covers every aspect of the trans and what to not do. You can read it if you'd like, however I can summarize it by telling you to use Matic K only.

The tranny seems to be the Achilles' heel of this gen so stick with genuine Matic-K.

use only the recommended nissan transmission fluid.
It was meant to work with that fluid. Anything else was not meant for this transmission, and might give you issues.
There is no equivalent. Get k matic from nissan.

Since I did a few drains and refill, and now I do it once a year, it solved ALL my transmission issues, and it's super smooth now at 190 000 km, no issues.
(and it was starting to be quite bad 130 000km ago, and it solved all this and never came back). k matic only.

i also had a tranny that started having shifting issues, i changed out the fluid right away with nissan matic k fluid (of which was dark and smelled burnt). All shifting issues gone.

change the fluid often, i preffer 25-30 k miles or more often if you beat on it.

with this car once a year or 15k is probably a better bet. Of course if you take it easy, just get the fluid sent in to the lab at nissan for analysis.
