Uhhh??!! Anybody seen my AT oil cooler??

2005 Maxima SE loaded
Was just reading the Nissan service manual (am I crazy? Who the hell reads factory service manuals?) and have seen talk on here and in the manual about the AT oil cooler and it just hit me that I don't think I have one on this car. Did they all have them or just some models? I had to pull the radiator the other day and it just dawned on me that I did not have to remove any AT cooler lines, just the upper and lower hoses and the overflow hose. There are 2 metal plugs about 3 inches long with a bend in them screwed into where I think the cooler goes! Ca

Some cars in 2004 had a heatsink/radiator cooled AT cooler. Most others have just a heatsink type cooler which screws in if I remember correctly. I have the radiator cooled AT cooler with an aftermarket AT cooler in line.

Ok, cool. I thought maybe someone had maybe removed it or something. I'll have to take another close look and maybe it has the heatsink type that you mentioned. Thanks

I have some kind of cooler, attached to transmission + aftermarket cooler.
I read service manuals all the time. Sometimes they have stupid info.

I found it and it is the heat sink attached to the trans. Somehow had looked over it before now.

yeah, and it sucks because you cannot flush the trans using the cool lines, because it's coolant going to the transmission and not transmission oil going into the rad.

The heatsink type do not have coolant going to them or transfluid. It is simply a screw in HeatSink. No hoses.

Well damn, I thought I remembered it to have 2 hoses coming off of it which I assumed were coolant lines. If you are correct, I guess that's what I get for assuming!!

Like I said before, some have the coolant lines and some don't. I know a couple guys on here wanted to add an external aftermarket trans cooler and couldn't due to there not being any fluid going to their trans to keep cool.

well there is no line with oil going out this is our main issue with the flush thing. All you can do is drain and refill, but it's still better than nothing. And, it seems to work.
