Vias hiss
Vias hiss
I have a 2005 Maxima SE with 154k miles, and there is a noticeable hiss coming from the cap that covers the vacuum nipple that leads to nowhere on the Vias. When I remove the cap and cover the nipple end with a finger tip, the hiss obviously stops and the idle drops a little. Is this normal? If not, could I just replace the offending plastic cap with a conventional rubber vacuum cap? As an aside, does anyone know why the factory cap is there in the first place? Diagnostic port???
I appreciate you taking the time to post those pics, but my problem isn't locating it. My problem is the hissing (leaking?) coming from the vacuum port on the right side that is capped off from the factory. My concern is whether or not it's normal for it to do that. Secondary question is what purpose that capped end serves.
According to the parts explosion diagram, all the ports are functional, that's how mine are, the one in the pic, I've never seen one capped off.
In any case, your cap must be leaking.
Here's mine, little blurry but you can still see it. The picture posted earlier has a BOP, and so therefore no actuator, and the actuator is where the second line should go. Did you buy your car used and if so, does it have a block off plate (BOP)?

Thanks for sticking with me on this. Yes I just bought the car used. No, there isn't a block off plate. Mine looks just like yours, two vacuum lines attaching to the left side of the vias. But...the part of it that I'm referring to as being "capped off" is as shown in your pic also. It's all the way on the right of the vias, just above the electric harness and closest to the vacuum canister. It's a plastic, oval-ish cap covering a vacuum port. The two pics that I posted earlier in this thread show the vias with and without the suspect cap. I know this is becoming more complicated than it should, but if you look at yours, you will know exactly what I'm talking about. Joe
