Maxima SES + Overheat Question!
Hello,
Last week, I bought 2004 Maxima with 75K mile.
On Saturday I was going to camping with my friends, like an hour after
driving, engine was overheated. Therefore, I had to tow my car to the
body shop. Body shop guys told me the sensor in the fan / radiator was
malfunctioning. They also check with the computer and ran the car to see
if overheating happen again. There was no problem showing on computer
scan. However, they found out radiator was replaced. So I called the
previous owner to ask if there was any problem with the engine and what
happened to the radiator. Seller told me that like an year ago, engine was
overheated so they replaced the radiator, after that there was no problem.
Anyhow, I picked up the car last morning and drove to my work,
temperature went up a little and went back to the middle. But at night
SES light suddenly came on. So this morning I went to the body shop again
to ask if there are more problems and body shop told me just ride. But if
temperature going up to 3/4 then bring the car back.
Conclusion, does it look like there`s a problem in the engine?
is it okay to drive with SES signal?
Should I go to Autozone or pepboys to scan the car again??
Please help!

Ask the seller if he replaced the thermostat when the radiator was replaced.
Then ask if if the water pump was replaced.
My best guess is if its going up and down the thermostat may be stuck or a fan might not be kicking on due to it.

i would see if the fans are turning on when getting to temp, or turn the a/c on see if both fans turn on or not, if only one does, smack the motor with something see if it will start turning at all afterwards. easiest way to find out if a fan motor is bad, or ohm them out. check fuses. make sure coolant is at proper level, and no air is in system.

I would go to nissan and have them check it.
previous owner probably bull****ting you and sold it to you because he didnt know how to fix the issue and he was pissed at it.
So you should also sue the previous owner after getting it fixed at nissan.

depending on the state trying to sue someone for a car wont get you far, utah is an as is state, so if i say this car your gonna buy is immaculate and then you buy it and it blows up in 2 miles, tough titty, your loss.

Shouldn't be too tough for you to diagnose yourself. As previously stated start by checking to see if the rad fan is running. Thermostats are pretty inexpensive so it won't hurt to change it and check your coolant level for starters.
