Thinking of Transgo Shift kit

I can feel my shifts getting harder and harder. I can feel myself pushed forwards a little bit in my seat when it goes from first to second, second to third. Assuming this is not a good sign. Also had the jerk from reverse to drive a few times as well. I'd feel much better honestly if I could finally get rid of this nagging feeling that my transmission is going to fail one of these days by getting this "transgo shift kit" installed.

Anything else I should be looking at? Something about valve body upgrade as well?

Even before I have troubles with my transmission, should I go ahead and get this kit installed? Anyone actually have it in their car? Thoughts, opinions? I'm driving a 5 speed auto btw. Thxs!!

A shift kit is a valve body mod for the Maxima. The shift from TransGo includes some optional seals and other parts to go inside the transmission, but as far as I can tell, they are optional and provided as a method to fix problems that the transmission may already be having. I opted not to have them installed since I had no other problems, and in doing so, it would require a transmission rebuild. The normal install just requires the valve body be removed and the kit be installed there. Only takes a few hours, and the kit costs 100 bucks. Cost me 400 bucks for the install.

I have the HD2 kit for forced induction/"hotrod" cars in my 4 speed auto 5.5 gen for the fun of it. To give you an idea of the drive, it was the best upgrade I ever put in it. Super fast shifts, up and down. 1-2 is super hard, but it's the first of the solid shifts ahead. My kit removes almost all luxury from the shifts in the car though. They are very quick and harsh. I know when I'm driving about in certain higher speeds/RPM zones on the freeway, I can feel it up and down rapidly with absolutely no hesitation between. Unlocks a lot of power and solves some old delays the transmission had for the 4 speed. In the 5 speed 6th gen, I'm not sure.

TransGo does make a regular kit that simply improves the transmission without the luxury sacrifice.

Keep in mind also that the 5 speed auto in the 6th gen is known to have problems. Read up on some of it https://maxima.org/forums/6th-genera...ssion-fix.html
Many people here have had problems and have found ways to fix it. My buddy here in Indy just got his Max and has problems as well, such as the hard shift into gears from park, delays, etc. Didn't look into it much since I have a 5.5 and because he doesn't seem to care much about it... yet.
The valve body fix from transgo might be an option for your fix!

Awsome! Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated!

Edit: So after some reading... I can either purchase a remanufactured VB with sonnax/transgo parts in it or just get the kit. Since I'm not experiencing anything too too bad with my vb I'm assuming the kit will last a long while if I go that route. But on the other hand a new vb with sonnax/transgo would probably last even longer but for more $. I found this site that's not far from me http://www.valvebodybuilders.com/nis...aw55_50sn.html. Things to ponder...

I was in your shoes and went through hours of reading, and learned that the Transgo kit includes a drill bit to help clean the solenoids, but doesn't replace them with something that fixes the underlying problem with the solenoid's design. The kit does replace various parts inside the valve body, but I've read posts saying that the problem eventually came back, probably because of the solenoids getting stuck again.

My suggestion is that if you're going through all that trouble, consider throwing in the Rosta solenoid replacements.

I just posted this on another thread, hope it might help:

--

Issue: This thread is dedicated to those who are experiencing delayed shifting or knocking on the 5 speed automatic transmission

Solution: There are 2 kits that claims to resolve the issue. The Transgo shift kit and the Rosta replacement solenoid. Both kits take different approach into solving the same issue. You can choose to install one or both kits.

Transgo Shift Kit: ($70) [8 hours] This kit requires the valve body to be removed from the transmission and the valve body to be disassembled. Different parts of the valve body will be replaced by parts in the shift kit, and there is a drill bit to clean the solenoids themselves. Might require an extra set of valve body gaskets as they might break during disassembly. Might also require a valve body cover gasket.

Rosta Solenoid Kit: ($220) [3 hours] This kit only requires the valve body cover to be removed, the entire 3 solenoids are then replaced. Might require a valve body cover gasket.

** Some had claimed that Transgo shift kit fixes the problem only for a year or so, as it only cleans the faulty solenoids, but doesn't actually replace the solenoids with flaws in their design.

Transgo Kit

All of this info is awesome because I am having some issues on my used transmission. My original trans went with 198,000 mile and I got a used one installed with 98,000 miles on it. I know have 208,000 and after driving for over 30 minutes via highway and then when it becomes traffic lights I get a high rev between 2nd and 3rd. Then after driving a little longer from a standstill it appears to be in 5th gear. After I park for over 4 hours and resume driving it drives fine going back on the highway. It appears if I had to drive a couple of hours with stopping the car is strong. I pulled the infamous P0780 code which can be anything with the trans. I changed fluid with Nissan K matic to see if that was it. What do you guys think?
