Coolant reservoir boiling
Parked my car today and was making a call when I noticed check engine light pop on and my car was running at max temp, needle buried all the way at the top. Immediately turned my car off and popped the hood, the coolant reservoir was boiling from the heat and coolant was leaking quite heavily about a foot in from the front right wheel. I let the car cool down then checked it an hour later, coolant reservoir is completely empty, oil cap has no white on it and dipstick shows oil looks completely normal. Any suggestions?

Car is overheating. Do all checks. Has it been changed regularly? Was there enough coolant? Is electric fan working? Check that air flow to radiator is not blocked and that radiator is flowing properly. Leaks etc.

Fill the radiator and reservoir with anti-freeze. Cut off the AC. Start the vehicle and cut on the AC. Check and see if the AC condenser fan is running. Let the vehicle run until it reaches normal operating temperature. The cooling fan/s should come on. The fan/s do not come on, shut off the engine and locate the fan/s relays. (My son no longer own's his Maxima and I can remember if there is one or two relays for the radiator cooling fans.) Take the AC condenser fan relay (should be same as cooling fan but be check the number and stich the relays. If the fan/s still does not come on then you need to check voltage to the fans. If the fans do come on then you probably have a stuck thermostat. You can check for a stuck thermostat be feeling the top radiator hose. If the vehicle is at normal operating temp and the hose is cold, then the thermostat is stuck.

I had the same problem with my miata and it turned out to be a warped head and blown head gasket from overheating. I had no oil in the coolant or no white material in the oil and no smoke of any kind. Sometimes this is what happens.
