Should I replace the transaxle seal when:

I'm replacing the passenger side CV axle on my 2004 Maxima. The old one is not leaking. Is it necessary to replace the seal with a new one, or can I reuse the old one? Thanks for any help!

Reuse if you're very careful during removal AND install to avoid damage

It's doable

Also, is it necessary to dran the transaxle fluid pryor to removing the axle?

I'm a believer in replacing seals. The current seal is 12 years old, lots of wear and drying out time. Maybe you can get by without replacing it right now, but it may start leaking in a year.

Thank you all for your responses! I got the old axle out and the new one in today and it wasn't as much trouble as I thought it would be. The hardest thing about it was actually removing the hub nut.
