2004 Transmission will not engage
2004 Transmission will not engage
I have a 2004 Maxima with 145000 miles. The car had the valve body fix for the hard shifting/safe mode transmission problem about 30k miles ago. Yesterday, the car was driving okay when the transmission started slipping (i.e., the RPMs would increase far beyond the gear and speed I was going, then go back down). Within a mile, the transmission stopped engaging at all and I was forced to coast to a parking lot.
Moving the gear shift, no forward or reverse gear works. I do feel a change in the engine speed or vibration when I move from Park to Reverse or Drive, but there is no engagement. I had a code several months ago about my neutral/safety switch, but it has not re-occurred and I cannot think of how that would cause this problem.
Anybody have thoughts? The car is in the shop and I am dreading what I will hear.
