04 maxima not shifting to 2nd gear

Hey so I have a 2004 maxima that’s and automatic trans not shifting to 2nd gear like it’s stuck on 1st it’ll go at low speeds but once I start to pick up speed it won’t shift and it’ll strat to make a rattle noise it has a oil leak so my brother decided to fill it up oil like there to much oil the the car could that be the problem?

Transmission problems usually it's best to take it to a tranny shop. A rebuilt is going to run you a couple thousand. Ideally it's not the transmission, maybe a valve or solenoid, and just a few hundred to fix. If you're high mileage, 150,000 or more, you should have had the fluid changed at least every 50k (don't quote me, consult manual).

As to the oil being too full...that's another problem, could cause seals to start leaking, but then you're already dealing with leaks you said. If it's not too over full, a little over the top of the line isn't going to kill you. If it's so full it's coming out of the dip stick tube...that's gotta be drained out then.

Is it throwing CEL and codes? This may be a CPS problem AKA "limp mode"
