I am looking at a 2008 Maxima with 145k miles. The dealership is asking for $5900.
What do you all think?
I had read some about the transmission being poor in this generation (with 07-08 being somewhat better).

What should I look for and what is a decent price? I am looking for a fun and reliable car.

Have you looked up the bluebook for a 2008 with that may miles? A fully loaded SL with Nav is only retail for about $4500 in Clean condition. Now if it's a lesser trim level, it would be even less.. You could and should do better. I personally wouldn't pay more then $4000 for an SL and that's with a brand new set of tires, brakes and battery. You will likely have a lot of maintenance regardless...
