Transmission Filter

Transmission Filter

My 07 has 112k miles and I don't believe the fluid has been changed at all since I bought it at 104k miles. I found a radiator leak from the transmission line and I lost about 2 quarts of cvt fluid (fluid was black) not sure how long it was for. Thankfully I have no issues with slippage or rpm jumps but there has been a grinding/vibration when I accelerate at low speeds since I bought the car. I plan on draining the fluid and want to change the filter but I can't find the part for an 07. Every website shows a different shape of the filter than what it's supposed to be. This pic below is what the filter looks like taken from a YouTube video on an 07 but can't find any online.

It is on the exterior of the CVT. What your picture is detailing is the screen for the CVT fluid pickup. I have never changed that. Just get it from the Dealership when you get the 31726-1XE0A.

Thank you so much! So is it worth even taking off that screen and cleaning it with brake cleaner or whatever?

Well, I am of the position to not mess with the internals of it (engine/cvt) unless you have to. There is risk of contamination by taking that stuff off. So, I would just do the drain/refill and and throw the new filter on it. If it comes about that you have to drop the CVT pan, then that is what ya gotta do.

When I do the drain, 4.5 quarts come out. However, it totals 5 quarts when you change out the filter.

I put Nissan NS-3 in my CVT. Originally our cars came with Nissan NS-2. Nissan NS-3 is now the only CVT fluid my Dealership can get, so that it what I put in. I have never had an issue and I have 156k on the clock.

There are some purists on this forum that contend that is the wrong way to go. To each is own, but I would say put in Nissan CVT fluid rather than aftermarket fluid.

If not mistaken, there is a filter by the driver front wheel side, lower front bumper.

Just did the drain/fill and replaced the filter on the drivers side after taking off the splash guard. Since the fluid has never been changed from previous owners (113k miles) it was difficult taking off the drain bolt. I put in 5 quarts and I don’t know if I can feel a difference only drove it around my neighborhood. One thing that was happening recently before I did this was when I would brake slowly the rpm would jumped from like 1,000 to 1,200 and the car would jerk a little like hesitating. That seemed to go away but other than that I can’t feel a difference. Should I keep draining and refilling every 30k miles just to be safe since this is the first time the transmission has been serviced?

Yeah, 30k-50k should be safe. If you drive it hard (short trips/cold or hot weather), then I would service it closer to 30k.

Take it out for a good 20min drive (highway), find a flat surface, and with the engine still running, check the fluid level of the CVT to be sure you have the correct amount in it.

If that is good, then I would repeat in a week's time to see what the colour of the fluid looks like. If it is clear, then leave it. If it is dirty, then do another drain and fill.
