Bomb in my brake pedal

Was informed by my son that my/ his 2004 SE is dead. I tell him to put the battery charger on it and he comes back with”I’ll let you do it when you get home from work”. Next morning I get the charger, open the door and I hear what sounds like a loud wind up clock and think to myself “my kid is too lazy to make a bomb but cartoonishly stupid enough to make one with a wind up alarm clock”.

That being said, I instinctively got in and push on the brakes and the noise stopped. Google has failed me and I firmly believe if it is happening to me it has happened to someone else.

on another note. There is a crazy loud drone that sounds like tire noise but keeps getting worse. My limited experience is screaming at me that the transmission is going. No funny feeling when it accelerates though. To low pitched for bearings. Had a lot of work done in last few years on sways, connectors and rods. The car is in great shape otherwise except the E brake.

thanks for any help.
