Engine starts but runs rough and idles high to low

Hi All,

I have a VQ23, J31 Maxima (Teana) that is a little hard to start, when it does start it will rev up and down and sometimes just die. Application to the throttle does nothing. After a few mins of it running rough and possibly warming up and after intentionally shutting off the engine, the engine will start and run without a problem. On a cold start the engine will run rough and go through this cycle a couple times, ignition, shutdown, ignition, shutdown, until it eventually starts up perfect, when driving after the final (successful startup) it drive without issue and normal.

There is no engine check light. I have checked the spark plugs (all nominal). Im thinking automatic choke problem or some solenoid value, as first thoughts. It seems like when the engine has warmed up (even just a little bit) the issue disappears. Once completely warm, I can shut the engine off and start it back up without a problem.

any ideas from more experienced users?

Thankyou

Vacuum leak? With the engine heated up, leaks are sealed up nice and tight, and she then runs fine?

possibly, but it doesnt need to heat up much, maybe after 2min of running rough, shutting it down and restarting it, then its fine
