NY / North NJ Dealers

I have been going to a few dealers with my VPP code to get pricing on the 09 Maxima SV with Pre + Tech packages and they have all been coming at below invoice ($34,509) without even looking up the VPP. The dealers are getting aggressive and going into the hold back. For a fully loaded Maxima, I don't see ANY car out there that would be at better value at under $35,000.

That invoice of ~$33,800 wouldn't include mats, splash guards, etc. Add them since the dealer will have them on the car anyway. That was how my invoice came to $34,509.

It is the Vehcile Purchase Program (VPP) which suppliers (and employees) for Nissan can use. It is a pre-set negotiated price with Nissan. It is not invoice price but figured from the invoice price.

Thanks 4themax.

Nissan should have a loyal customer incentive, at least for people owning $30k+ vehicles like the Maxima and Murano. Infinti has that.

My boss bought a 04 Quest in 2004. In 2006, he got a $3000 coupon from Nissan which could be applied for buying another Quest (that is what he told me). He got another 06 Quest. I am waiting for such a coupon before I buy another Maxima

You'd think being a seven-time Max owner should get you something, no????

Best I ever got was an invite to a 4th Gen customer reaction clinic back in spring '93, prior to the 4G introduction - when I was only a one-time owner.

That clinic was interesting... right hand drive version on display, SE wheels/trim on one side, GLE wheels/trim on the other. The passenger side dashboard had a Post-It note with a pencil drawn SRS logo. This was at a hotel convention center in Secaucus, NJ.

I also got an invite to the 7G "private" party at the local dealer about a week prior to the formal intro - that anybody could have walked into.

I'm not holding my breath for any $3,000 coupon.

jcalabria, your case is a little disappointing. I wonder why you haven't moved up and tasted the Infiniti waters yet!

Prior to the G, there was never any Infiniti that even remotely piqued my interest. I had the opportunity when I leased the '07... the '06 G leases were lower than the '07 Max. I liked the concept of the G, but the 1st gen G35 was just a little too snug inside and I never was much for its styling. Wouldn't mind an M but way too pricey. Actually, I was closer to getting a TL (also lower lease price than Max) than I was a G. Had I known how mushy the '07 suspension would turn out to be, I likely would have gone with the TL.

I understand your point since I too have a 07. But I was looking for a somewhat mushy ride. My next choice was the Avalon. I hope you know that now Infiniti is offering very good deals on the M (like 0.9% APR for 60 mos, etc.).

Still have two more years to go on the '07 lease. Who knows... in two years gas may be $10/gal and I may be dusting off my motorcycle license... 90% of the time I'm solo in the car anyway.

For me, a mushy ride is the worst possible sin in a car. I wouldn't say the 6G SE is horrible... its exactly what I would have expected from an SL, Avalon or ES350 (three cars that would never ever show up on my radar) - mainstream competent but definitely leaning too far to the ride side of the ride/handling equation. It just doesn't live up to the standard set by previous gen SE's. Too much extra body motion, particularly in the rear. Had that been more evident in the test drives I had taken, I probably would have passed on the 6G Max. The tight cockpit and ungainly styling (to me) of the 1st Gen G35 were easy to see... handling subtleties are not always so obvious in a ten minute spin around the block.

Its a good thing the Max has the CVT... learning its subtleties has kept me entertained and my mind off the pogo stick rear suspension.

My biggest peeve with Nissan is that they just should have been honest and not marketed a 6G SE at all if it wasn't a real SE. I would have then known instantly that the 6G wasn't my cup of tea. Instead I allowed myself to be duped - probably exactly what Nissan was hoping for. Funny thing is that the 7g SV + Sport would seam to be fully worthy of the SE badge, yet it no longer carries that honored and respected moniker.

Before I consider a 7G Max in two years (SV + Sport would be the only possible consideration unless an even more sport oriented version came along), a more extensive test drive would be in order before I jumped into the waters again. Fool me once...

I ordered a 09 maxima sv + tech in super black and cafe latte leather. Price without taxes was $35635. They threw in a 3 year maintenance package with oil changes, etc. Seems like the best deal I can get on the 7th gen.

It is also for companies that have a program with Nissan. For example, Nissan employees get our products at a discount and we get VPP. There are different level. I believe C is the largest discount. I have the D code. Yes, it is figured off the invoice and comes out to about $100 off invoice for a fully loaded max.

Nice ride but way over priced. I went to my dealer and they had 4 on the lot. The stealsman said they were entertaining only 2k over MSRP. My response, you must want to pay interest on them for a long time. I mean come on people. I bout my 2006 elite with every available option for 29760...you mean to tell me this car is 10k more? no way....I like them and have owned a 4th, 5th, & 6th...and I'll own a 7th when i BUY IT USED for 20k next year...

Your dealer (like mine) is a little slow. They need to understand the car has been out almost two months, and the 'Market Adjustment' game is over. Several folks here on the ORG have gotten their '09 up to $2,000 BELOW MSRP already.

The price on the '09 is a very fair price when we consider what this car will be selling for this fall. This car is much better appointed, much better looking, a much better performer, and much more fun to drive than my 6th gen (which I love). This '09 Maxima truly is a fine combo of 'Sport' and 'Luxury'. And there are those here on the ORG who will tell you they are already getting their '09 below MSRP.

I just purchased an 09 SV Sport this past weekend...navy blue on charcoal leather with summer tires. I traded in my 97 Maxima SE with 180,000k miles, a cracked windshield, failed inspection, noisy throw out bearing, and relatively poor condition inside and out. I walked out the door at $30k even. The dealer "arranged" the deal to achieve the best looking sale price for them, but basically I got $3,000 for my trade-in and paid $33,200 for the car ($35,485 MSRP + delivery). Dealers are definitely starting to deal.

2K over MSRP?? for a car that has been out for almost two months and not in limited production is crazy. I would shop around or get a dealer from another state to sell you the car and have it shipped. It would still be well below 2k over MSRP. Dealers in the tri-state area are selling the 09 max for around invoice.

Thanks Neptune..That sounds like the deal I'm looking for. Light is right I think the dealer near me is a little slow. I'm gonna search a wider area..

USAA has a "pre-set" price with certain dealers, which I am sure you could work on, but for the most part they offer a great deal....The Price was 34,2XX for SV Prem\Tech......At least with the USAA price you can use it as leverage is dealing with local users (all you have to do is print out the "certificate")...

I am so glad I found this forum, it's helped me get through months of holding out for the best price until we purchase our car. I would appreciate input on the quote I received today-
Tuscan sun/Prem char/w/Tech Pkg/spoiler/floormats-$35, 100-before tax ect. MSRP is $38,535.

Want a new one!

Ok the wife and I are ready to get a new 09 maxima (premium+tech).

Our story - we will buy one versus leasing one for the following reasons:
1) wife feels she must absolutely pay it down and own it
2) she bought her last maxima and paid it off in 5 years
3) we've had our 97 maxima for 11 years so we're use to having the same car
4) we don't drive much - ave 6k/year so 12k/15k leases are overkill

We know the financing payments will be higher than leasing but curious if they're running any low interest incentives.

Done a lot of research and have questions:
1) We're ready to put down around $10K down payment. Will a large down payment help in negotiating down the price or really only influences the interest rate?

2) From my research it appears, that a good deal these days is ~$34.5K for the premium+tech package and a great deal is anything less than that; Would you agree with that?

3) If we're flexible in the color, would that help in negotiating a better price since we're more likely to take a car on lot versus getting a car transferred from another dealer? How does on-lot vs off-lot work in negotiations?

4) It's beginning of October now, when is the best time to buy this car? We can wait it out for a few weeks. I've heard it's better to buy at the end of the month or end of the quarter. I'm assuming it's a calendar quarter.

thanks in advance

Even the base S has the same tires, wheels, motor, tranny, markings, etc as the loaded top-of-the-line Premium. No law against saving money in these catastrophic economic times.

Nothing wrong with having a very nicely equipped Maxima for Camry/Accord/Altima money. Good luck and enjoy.
