OK, Who Bought One? What do you think?
Option to buy 09 Max SV with Premium/NAV/Spoiler with 47k on the motor for 25k-good?
I have been shopping around for a used 09 Maxima SV (fell in love with it once I test drove it) and wanted everyone's opinion if they could help.
I came across an EXCELLENT condition 2009 Maxima SV with the Premium, NAV, and Spoiler add-ons. It has 47k on the motor though.
I talked the dealer down to 25k + tax/fees but the mileage is still making me hesitant.
Do you think it is anything to worry about with this fantastic car? Or should I find one with less mileage that is maybe a little more expensive? Or should I ask for more off this one? Please any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You could get an '09 'S' for under $20K, and an '09 base 'SV' for just over $20k, but the Premium Package and Tech package (incl Navi) make this a MUCH nicer car. The Premium Package adds tons of good stuff, including the Music Box, on which you can store the music from many dozens of CDs, so never having to keep the CDs in the car. The Premium Package also adds individual driver seat cooling and heating (totally separate from the regular two-zone heating and cooling).
Because of the lack of warranty on all parts of this car except the power train, I would probably not purchase this car unless I had a mechanic I trusted check it out. Even then, I would insist that the selling dealer give at least a 30 day warranty covering everything but normal wear-and-tear parts. If the car is really in good shape, it will pass an inspection, and the dealer should have no hesitation with a 30 day warranty.
The good thing here is that you would be getting every major option Nissan offers with this car, and with the options you listed, it would actually be a luxury car disguised as a Nissan.
If this car is mechanically sound, you might still get well over 100K more happy miles with little trouble. I have driven Maximas over 200K miles.
That car equipped as you stated had an MRSP of almost exactly $40K, and was probably bought for around $35K. It is between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 years old ('09s were sold from June 26, 2008 until summer 2009), but with 47K on the odo, is no longer under warranty, EXCEPT the warranty on the power train (engine and tranny) is 5 years or 60,000 miles, so you would have some protection there.

Do you think I should call back and use the fact that the mileage is so high, and it basically knocks off a couple years of certified coverage that I'd normally get to enjoy to ask for a lower price? I got them to agree to 25, which they sorta did easily. All I did was offer 25 and then try to leave and finally he came back saying okay. The victory felt empty though like I could have gotten them to come down more.
I do have a trusted mechanic (used to own an 02 Sentra SE-R and he took great care of it) so I could have someone inspect the vehicle. Although I'm pretty sure it has passed inspection and has some Nissan "141" point inspection it went through; although not sure how much of that is hype.
The vehicle itself was maintained very well, and on the Carfax clearly indicates the single previous owner got regular oil changes and had the 35k maintenance as needed. Cosmetically it is very well cared for, and I was told most of the mileage was highway miles.
I'm trying to make sure I don't get a car with an unnecessary amount of mileage just to save a few bucks. Unless of course you think the 2-3k I'm saving by going with this unit instead of another with half the mileage is worth it. This is hard...
The car is being offered as a certified pre-owned Nissan from a Nissan dealership with coverage up to 72 months/100,000 miles. They showed me a brochure indicating it also covers things like electrical. Not sure how extensive the coverage is compared to bumper-to-bumper. I imagine my credit union I financed through will offer me some type of extended warranty, as well as the car dealership is offering me a bumper-to-bumper option.

I must make the disclaimer here that I have not bought a used car in in decades. But I do read articles on things to watch for when buying a used car.
I like that you will still have over 10K miles left on the original power train warranty, and Nissan warrants the CVT tranny for ten years/100K miles. With the dealer certifying the car, and giving a 72 month/100K warranty, you at least have some support/recourse should trouble happen.
I would look under carpets (which means removing some molding, etc) in both the front seat and rear seat footwells, and also under the trunk carpet/mat, etc, and be sure there is no rust anywhere. Lots of places have had major flooding in recent years, and some drivers have managed to leave their windows/sunroof open during rainstorms.
Look carefully under the hood at the metalwork around the engine compartment and in door frames for any sign of repainting, which could indicate repairs from an accident. Be sure the tires are wearing evenly, with little feathering or indication of alignment problems. Check all lights. Check every button and switch in the car.
If you can get the price down to $24,500, you will have saved $500. It is certainly worth a try, but I don't think the dealer will come down much further on a certified, completely loaded Maxima that is in good condition.
I bought several cars back in the 1950s and 1960s with between 40K and 50K on the odo, and ended up running every one of them to betweem 160K and 220K miles. Buying used cars is a crapshoot in a way, but sometimes enables us to drive a car we otherwise could not afford. At least the Maxima has a reputation of being a reliable car. I still see Maximas from the 1980s on the road.
Good luck with your decision.
Just bought my 1st Maxima last friday!!!! 2011 SV Premium/Tech package!!! I have wanted a maxima for years. Can now finally afford one. Super Black with a spoiler and fully loaded right off the show room floor! So far I absolutely love this car. Actually it is my wifes but I am the keeper!! She wanted an Acura but I had her test drive a maxima and she loved it (actually got pulled over during the test drive). We are still trying to find out what all this car can do. I will post some pics soon!!
Have had my 2011 Maxima SV Premium for two months now. Fully loaded as well. Love the car, but I've already noticed the paint peeling off the seam where the front bumper meets the quarterpanel and the wheel well. It's happening on both sides, and I am NOT happy about it.
Gonna have to take it in to get it fixed under the warranty after Thanksgiving holidays...

I picked up a 2010 on June 3rd, 2010. The steering has been improved on significantly since the '03 I had for a short while. My first 1000 miles were put on the car in a week making a trip from NYC to Boston and back, with some detouring on the way. At that point, the car was registering at nearly 30 mpg when I was doin about 75 in cruise control for an hour and a half. Once the car got to 2500 (with that 1500 being all residential driving) I had leveled out at about 18.5/22.7 city/highway, respectively. The car has long gears, I've topped at 61, even with the auto shift happening at 6000rpms.
the car is crimson jade with 20% tints front, back, and strip. Black cloth interior. All in all, my favorite car ever. If you like Nissan, a maxima is a great way to go. Power, speed, comfort, and some luxury, yet simple at the same time.

going from a 2000 to a 2011 Maxima, there have been many improvements. The steering is much better. The CVT is great. There is plenty of power to pass slower cars on the road at any speed. I'm loving it.

Only question I have for other Maxima owners is how do you maximize your mileage? K&N filter? Certain kind of oil? Reason I ask is I seem to be averaging 17-22 and I am not driving it hard.
After over 2 years and 3 months....(bought when they first hit the lots) and 13K miles I have to say this really is a great car. It's well built, everything works how it's supposed to, its perfect on long drives, quiet, strong, just a GOOD solid car. I SHOULD have gotten the tech package, but at the time there were only a few tech/sports and I took what was on the lot. I'd advise people to GET the tech no matter if it takes a few days to get one brought in. Other than that, great car for the money.
I got a 2010 SV with the Sport/Tech package and the only thing I have a problem with is the transmission. . . Wish they still had the 6speed manual option. Dont get me wrong I like the CVT with the paddle shifters but nothing can replace a manual. Other than that it is by far my favorite car I have owned.
I purchased my '11 Max Premium/Tech on Black Friday of this year...so far so good. My thoughts are as follows:
- For the money this is a nice (almost luxury) vehicle with a lot of options rolled into well-designed packages.
- The suspension is not what I would consider soft (as you can certainly feel the bumps in the road), but definitely not obtrusive and it won't jar your glasses of your face.
- Acceleration is great...feels almost as good as my '09 Challenger R/T.
- Handling is better than my '09 Challenger...which shocked me (until I started thinking about how much the Chally actually weighs).
- I'm 6'1" and I fit in the vehicle comfortably (as well as enter and exit with ease). However, in the back seat I have to lower my head to sit up straight.
- With my seat all the way back, my son fits in his booster seat and has plenty of room for his legs. My baby girl's car seat base went in without any problems and I only have to scoot the passenger seat up about an inch to clear the back of the rear-facing car seat.
- I love the iPod integration...the best I've seen so far (as a matter of fact I leave an iPod in the car connected 24/7 and never have to touch it...mayber I should check to see if it's drawing power even when the car is turned off).
- The 9-speaker Bose system is very good! It's not great because you have no ability to control the mids and the bass is not phenominal (6x9 speakers).
- I love the rolled tips on the exhaust and think that Nissan's inexpensive upgrade on the chrome tips really adds something to the rear of the vehicle.
- Speaking of the rear...why have ONLY the word MAXIMA on the left side and nothing else to designate the trim level on the right side? Something like SVP, SVS, SV-P, SV-S, or S would make the rear aesthetically pleasing. I ordered my own letters to rectify this problem.
- Nav system is good and I like the weather updates.
- The bluetooth connection to my work Blackberry is phenominal...it grabs everything (i.e., my phonebook, signal strength, call-log, battery life of my phone, etc.). Once again...best I've seen!
Just picked up my new maxima yesterday...went into a large dealership with many dif brands of vehicles not planning on buying anything and walked out with my truck traded in and a $38k car sitting in my driveway... Driving it around last night I LOVE IT! (have noticed a slight pull to the right however)
I am 6'5" 330 and fit comfortably in the car. Girl friend is 5'11" and she can straighten her legs out completely, hell I can almost do the same.

Just picked up a 2011 Ocean Grey SV-Premium with Tech. Love the car. I have always liked owning a Nissan and although I do miss having the manual transmission I had in my 05 Spec-V I am really loving all the features and luxury this car brings. I am happy I upgraded from a tuner car to one that fits my growing families needs better, while still being able to destroy Hondas when the wife is not looking
Picked up a brand new 2010 Maxima SV Premium/Nav three weeks ago - last 2010 they had on the lot and got a smoking deal. Was going to buy a 4 door G37x, but after doing some calculations, it made more economic sense buying the Maxima.
My other vehicle is a 2002 Chrysler 300M Special, so I'll be doing a comparison between the two.
I was quite surprised how fully loaded and the amount of features the Maxima had. It had the same features as the 300M like heated seats, HID's, TPMS, power and leather seats, power mirrors, auto dimming rear and side view mirrors and others.
The Maxima has more features compared to the 300M like, cooled drivers seat, Navigation, Bluetooth, Hard drive, XM Radio, Dual panoramic roof, heated steering wheel, rear sun shade, paddle shifters and VDSC.
The 300M has some features I wish the Maxima had. Full size spare tire, better TPMS (the one in the 300M displays each tire pressure), better alternator 130amps compared to 110amps in the Maxima.
The Maxima drives very nice and smooth and has great acceleration. I was very skeptical with the CVT transmission (love the 10 year warranty on it) at first. But after driving it for a few days, I really like the transmission. It is so smooth and seamless when you step on it. Even though it takes premium fuel, I'm saving about $10 in gas a week compared to the 300M. I love the fit and finish inside and out. The doors have a solid feeling and nice soft materials inside. I also test drove a 2010 Acura TSX V6 and the doors have a cheap feeling. When you tap your finger on the sheet metal of the doors, it made a very cheap and tingy sound. So boo on Acura for that (and they call themselves a premium brand).
The 300M Special actually handles better - probably because it has better tires (Michelin Pilot Sport 245/45/18 Summer Tire) and a lower ride, but it is a much firmer ride. It doesn't accelerate as fast as the Maxima, but it has a higher top speed (153mph) compared to 132mph in the Maxima. The exhaust note in the 300M sounds much better, it is louder at idle, at all speeds and sounds raspier.
So far I'm very happy with the Maxima. The amount of car you get for the price is actually amazing. I've been new car shopping for about 2 months and nothing in this price range even comes close to the Maxima in terms of styling, features, quality of materials and fit and finish.
Here's a list of cars I tried before buying the Maxima:
2010 Evo X - really cheap interior and really tingy doors
2010 Acura TSX V6 - Lots of hard plastics used in the interior and really tingy doors
2011 Nissan Altima SL - Didn't like the 4 cylinder (dealer had no V6 models), bland interior
2010 Infiniti G35X - Nice interior, well built
2010 Audi A4 - Nice interior, well built, but puny 2.0 engine
2010 Passat CC - Nice interior, well built, puny 2.0 engine, V6 model overpriced
2010 Mazda 6GT - Too many hard plastics on the interior, bland styling and really tingy doors
2010 Mazda RX-8 R3 - Really nice looking car, but too small, bad on gas and oil. Good fit and finish.
2010 Subaru STI and WRX - Really cheap interior, really tingy doors. Car is over priced, but great engine.
I'm surprised on how little Maximas I see on the road, which is actually good. I've been getting a lot of positive comments from strangers and friends. Well I guess that's enough said.

I have an 06 Maxi and I've been doing my research on the 7th Gens since they came out in 2008. A lot of good info on this thread and the more i read the more I am persuaded to buy. I love my 6th and its paid off. I put a lot of TLC. Had my eyes on a 7th for some time now and out of the blue last week, the same person i bought my 6th from, is trying to get me into an 09 with 22k miles. I know he can get me a good price on the 7th gens new or used, but i love being without a car payment. Guy/gals, i need your honest opinions. Should i go for the 7th gen? or should i wait until i'm emotionally detached from my 6th gen?
SN: any word on a 7.5 gen?

Been in my Metallic Slate 2011 SV Prem/Prem Tech for about a month now and am very, very happy. Still neurotically wondering if I should have added the spoiler and if my $33,500 price was truly bottom line (including splash guards and full set of mats mats), given the buying time. I did, however, get a very good trade against the purchase price for my '00 S-80. Comparing the two cars I tell people I've been driving a truck for the last 5 years. Everyone is wowed by the features and guesses it to be $10K over what I paid. This "almost a luxury car" is name brand-elitist bunk, IMO.
I am having trouble with the climate-controlled drivers seat, but determined not to obsess over it. I'm already figuring out ways to get it to stay on without tripping off.
As a self-proclaimed gadget geek, I am humbled by the depth of techno features in this model. I keep going back to the manuals for tutorials and my eyes start to go blurry soaking all of the instructions in. I don't know If I'll ever master all the Nav features.
Being also a died-in-the-wool iPod freak, I love having the interface abilities but am a little dissapointed with some of it's shortcomings:
When using the Nav map I wish the bottom title would scroll to include the artist name as well. Unless someone can help me otherwise (please?) I can only get the iPod screen info in three steps using two different places to touch (I've settled on using the Status screen for familiar drives, which does list the artist);
My iTunes library is set up to sort artists alphabetically by last name (told you I was a geek); so when I use the (very good) artist search feature in the car that scrolls alphabetically it will stop at the first letter based on first name, not last. Example is if I scroll-search to "S" it stops at Solomon Burke, which is alphabetically listed on my iPod under B.
Reaching even further for functionality, I wish I could access the iPod Genius Mixes from the car.
I wish the large USB icon was replaced by the much smaller album art icon...just cuz it would look better.
Being a newbie I couldn't create a dedicated iPod thread. Perhaps soon...

I'll take 0 payments anyday. Enjoy your 6th gen!

But this is not a good time to be burdened with any kind of time payments. I would be very hesitant to take on debt under current economic conditions. But the decision must be yours.
The 7.5 has been kept very quiet by Nissan. If Nissan follows normal form, it will arrive as a 2012 sometime between April and July. But the last time we had economic conditions this bad, the cars rolling by where I lived were Cords, Pierce-Arrows, Terraplanes, Packards, DeSotos, etc. So nothing is written in stone at this time.
Whenever it arrives, the 7.5 will not be greatly different from the 7.0. There will be cosmetic changes on the front, and probably the rear. A few features will be added to entice buyers, but we don't yet know what those additions will be. We could certainly use power folding outside mirrors, a more refined Tire Pressure Monitoring System, a little more flexibility in the tech/audio area, etc, etc. We should know the full story by midyear.
maybe a diesel version or a hybrid version ? who knows.
the big issue is gas price in the next few years, where will standard gasoline engines stand when just about every car released after the next 2 years will be some kind of hybrid form.

I understand y
our desire for the 7th gen. Believe me, I counted the days until we were able to find exactly the 7th gen I was looking for, and had it trucked in from around 60 miles away.

I doubt Nissan adds major motive power options with a half-gen. The 7 1/2 gen Maxima will probably arrive in four to six months. We will know the changes within four months. Should be nothing major. Will include the usual front and rear cosmetic tweaks. I wish they would include power folding outside mirrors, a modern Tire Pressure Monitoring System, etc.
The 8th gen will arrive either in spring of 2013 as a 2014, or spring of 2014 as a 2015. That release WILL almost surely include motive power options, most likely either a hybrid or diesel.
I prefer the diesel option, because diesels have very strong torque, and that would work well to get this heavy Maxima rolling quickly. If Nissan can produce a diesel with around 220 HP, with around 400 ft pounds of torque, and acheive a five gallon MPG improvement over our current engine, we would have strong accelleration, plus I would be getting 33-35 MPG on freeway trips instead of the current 28-30. Over 600 miles between fillups. I could deal with that.
Hello
New member here:
So after doing research for a new car i stumbled upon the Maxima and fell in love with it. Got me a 2011Max SV Tech. Really nice car and it does not feel like a nissan inside it @ all. Its still new to me so i am reading up on this website like crazy. Wanted to say hello and that i plan on gaining knowledge and wisdom to keep my ride running good.

So The Max was in the garage since i purchased it last week, was getting the insurance handled. I did not want to drive it just cause i had it.
I drove it today, OMG its so smooth and i dont feel like im in a Maxima at all. I took my baby brother for a spin with me and he was loving it. Dont see to many of these around my area so it feels good knowing that. Camrys/Accords/TL's are all over the place though. The usb drive is dope, got a gang of music in it and the Bose is good too. I had some good times in my 00 Honda but...... Im ready for better times in the Max. Cleaned it up decently but i got a few free Details from the 'Ship that i plan to use when i get some free time.

im looking at a 2011 sport and tech package in wihte with black leather interior just wanted input on any problems you guys have encountered......my wife is a fax of the maxima and i'm gonna be downgrading from a range rover sport superchaged so i want technology and comfort and of course some fun
My Maximusaurus Rex is a great car. I've had it for a few months now. My only grievance is that the navigation system software blows. I don't know what I can say about the software that hasn't already been said about afghanistan. The interior lighting would have been awesome if they picked blue....however they picked orange which looks like somebody farted in a shoe. Aside from that I love the car.

Pfft like they should care. Ford is putting Facebook on their touchscreen interfaces now. Point being it's obviously up to the discretion of the driver. If someone get's into an accident because their interior lighting is blue....well then I guess you can't fix stupid.
owned the car almost 3 years now (got it 2008 September) and have under 14k miles on it, just gave it a detail..it really is a great car. It's smooth, I love the quality of the interior, the great road trip car, I'll miss it when its time for a new one.
Picked Up a New 2011 SV Sport
Just picked up a new 2011 SV Sport with Monitor Package. Love the stock 19" wheels and spoiler. It was between this and a 2011 G37. It came down to getting more car for the money and the fact that the Maxima fits my 6'-4" frame much better than the G. Love the new ride and look forward to breaking it in
. Love the bells and whistles. One question though....why no badge for the upgraded models(SV, SE, ect...). Would love to see an S badge similar to the Infinity S models. Wish they would have gone with a 6 disc MP3 changer instead of the music box function. Who is really going to take the time to download CD's to the harddrive....who buys CD's anymore anyway. Great Ipod interface.
