had my 2011 Maxima S about 2 months now and i can say it's one of the best cars i have had. even as a "base" model it has many features my previous "loaded" cars didnt have. gas mileage could be better but with 290hp under the hood who really cares haha.

After a five year hiatus, I'm back.

I picked one up at the end of June. A 2011 SV w/ Sport & Technology Package it was an owners demo w/ 3300 miles. It was optioned out with everything that model has to offer. I didn't like it at first but once I got it on the highway and on some hard cornering roads I was sold. My best Maxima yet. I owned a 1999 SE 5sp, moved on to a 2002 SE 6sp w/ nav & meridian pkg. and now this one. I love the Music Box! Still figuring out all of the other goodies. I do miss my manual, I won't lie, but I'm figuring out this CVT.

I bought a 2010 Max with 14500 miles on it, trading in my 2006 Altima. I was initially worried about buying used, but this one has the feel of new car. The CVT is awesome, in my humble opinion!

When a person moves from manuals to the CVT, it can be difficult at first to give up that feeling of being in full control of the car. But the CVT gradually grew on me. You seem to have the open mind necessary to close the door on the past and make a successful adjustment. Congrats on your purchase!

You made the CVT adjustment quicker than I did. It took me several months before deciding I really liked the CVT. You seem to have made the transition rather quickly. I think you will continue to enjoy this car. I have over 2 1/2 years in my '09 with no complaints.

I get in my Mazda 6 and whip around every other day, and it is fun - to drive the manual. But then, I get in the Maxima and it just feels right. It is mature, aggressive, and I still feel in control. With the paddles, I have all the control I need. I love both cars, but the Maxima is my favorite!

Clearly a man with an open mind. The harsh words about the CVT on this forum the first few years the 7th gen was out would scald the hair off a dog's back. Of course those scathing posts came from drivers who did not own a car with a CVT, and said they never would.

I did have some sympathy with them, because I remembered how disappointed I was when, after driving my '49 Studebaker three speed manual and my '53 Chevy 210 three speed manual, I moved to a Chevy Powerglide tranny. It slipped like the shift box must have been filled with bananas. I very soon switched to a '55 Pontiac Star Chief with a four speed automatic, which was vastly better than the powerglide.

But those drivers that hate the CVT will be disappointed when more and more manufacturers begin using it as a means to get slightly higher fuel efficiency.

I bought this car new in 07/03/2010, and I am still satisfied. It is funny that this car still breaks necks, even though its a stock sv sport.

The car is pretty solid, with about 30,000 miles now, and no major issues so far (*knock on wood*). The only issues I had/have with the maxima are very minor. First issue; I had to replace a foglight at about 20,000 miles. Second issue; the driver side window makes a creaking noise when the windows go up, with some investigation, probably due to how tight the door was put together. Third issue; the motor for the tilt/telescopic wheel has a high pitch sound. I can live with these issues.

Hey quick tip man that whine in the auto-tilt wheel means the motor is about to go, mine made noise and I got the entire thing replaced ($1400) under warranty. Go in before warranty expires and get that replaced.

I'd have to take the door apart and see what it is. The motor for the Tilt is a super torquey thing. So I'd expect it is a ball bearing motor. It is possible that if you brace the steering wheel during the exit system adjustment to help you out of the car, that the additional weight on it caused a bearing or two to fail. The watchout regards continuing this behavior beyond the warranty. You don't want to have to make this kind of costly repair yourself - and the electronic tilt is super sweet.

Let the seat and steering wheel fully adjust after you turn off the car, before you get out. I suspect that might be the solution.

I've noticed your longstanding car experience. Was that Studebaker the car or truck? That was the column shifter too, hah? It's eery how much things have changed -- and how much they've stayed the same. I am honored to trade conversation with you, you being such an experienced car enthusiast!

Congrats to both of you! This is a great car, as I am sure you are finding out. Being in my 7th Gen Maxima reminds me of being on a bike. There is a certain camaraderie between owners. I often see other owners staring my car down, as I do the same to theirs in passing, so we can both see how sexy our cars appear to others - again.

The Stude was a black four door family sedan with column shifter which I drove extremely carefully, as, other than maneuvering semis and trailers between loading docks at my uncle's trucking company lot, this was my first real 'ride.'

I can still see that Stude in my mind. I later realized it wasn't all that stylish, but at the time, it seemed like a Ferrari to me. It meant no more pedaling 7 miles to town on my Schwinn with whitewall balloon tires and two luggage baskets at the sides of the rear wheels for groceries.

You should write a book, all adjectives, describing those sweet experiences. It is the "feeling" we are missing on today's media. You know, when you look back and every memorable time has a "feeling," a smell, a certain sense that makes it unique. That can only be conveyed through words. You are in a unique position to share all of that.

I picked mine up on Monday. 2011 White S.

I'm simply in love with the car. Happier abut it than when I bought my 08 C Class last year.

I'm just concerned about one thing. After driving it around for a couple of days I notice that it seems it switches from 1st Gear to like 4th or 5th when taking off from a stop/red light. Is this the case??

I remember my Z06 Covette did this where if you shifted in the 1800-2500 RPM range it wouldn't allow you to shift into 2nd. I had to install a CAGS Bypass shift plug into the tranny.

Is this something Nissan is doing to save gas?

There is no question many manufacturers are setting up cars for high fuel efficiency these days, and I find I can start from standstill in my '09 and work my way up to speed fairly quickly while keeping the RPMs above 2K.

Of course, if I demand more by 'crushing the eggshell' between my foot and the accelerator pedal, the RPMs jump right to the 4K to 5K range, and the car literally scoots, especially once it passes the 35 MPH threshold.

But I do enjoy having the option to save fuel by taking off gently, with the RPMs staying low.

Actually, I had YOU pegged as the 'author type.' It is too late in life for me. I have had a few articles published, but only specifically targeted ones, such as a treatise on the 1946 college basketball season at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the migration of family names in eastern Cheshire, England between the year 1081 and the year 2000, daily life in the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Mortimer NC in the 1930s, the evolution of potters and pottery types in the Stoke-on-Trent area of Staffordshire between 1790 and 1880, etc. Nothing that would threaten to stir juices in the literary world.

I grew up in a world where giants such as Edward R. Murrow, Charles Kuralt, Eudora Welty and Walter Cronkite enabled me to understand that there are those among us who can write, and then there are those among us who would like to be able to write. Sadly, I find myself in the latter group.

Wow, did not know it was that expensive. I will have to take it in before it reaches 36k. Thanks.

I let everything reset before I exit my maxima, so I am not sure what could cause the noise. Maybe because I sometimes adjust the steering wheel numerous times while driving?

It pains me to criticize the 7th gen Maxima, but I believe in calling a spade a spade.

I try to read as many of the posts here as I can, and I have seen far too many folks with noise and even failures in their steering wheel adjustment systems. I am convinced these problems are resulting from either a design flaw, or an engineering failure. I don't think anything we are doing as drivers is causing this.

But I still love this 7th gen Maxima.

Hi guys, new to this forum,....
I bought my maxima 2010 on march of this year, new, and I love it.

Of course, next summer I'll ger the 19 inch wheels (original ones) plus some good tires and keep de 18 for some studded winter tire for, you guessed, winter......

Anyway, couple of weeks after receiving the car, some little problems started to appear.

There was water in the driver side side-view mirror flasher. Then same week, the front driver seat started to have some slack, and, I felt a vibration when I was driving around 110-130km/h. I went to the dealership in Laval called Nissan Gouverneur and, was surprised about the service. They saw all the glitches dans solved everything with some delay of course (replaced left mirror and two rear tire (that had problems dont know what,...) after 1 week.) It was a bit longer for the seat, that was more and more slack, it took 6 week for Nissan Canada to say OK to that repair... dont know why!

Then after having replaced left mirror, they had to do the same on the right one because le LED flasher got water too....???? June 13th, I had a rendez-vous at the dealership for the glass roof having problem to open and close, it was vibrating a lot. The dismentle the hole thing (which is quite a job the tec told me) reassemble, realign and regrease.

Since then everithning is good. Love the car, I'd give it 30 more HP but it is very nice as it is.

That's about it...

I have seen every one of your problems posted here by one driver or another, but never all on the same car. I must say I don't think I have seen anyone here get that many problems successfully fixed by their dealer. Your seat delay was not your dealer's fault; Nissan was replacing quite a few seats around the time you were getting yours fixed, and seats were in short supply for awhile.

I am sorry you have had more than your share of problems. Just bad luck, I guess. I bought my '09 over two and a half years ago, and have not had a problem yet.

Just don't make the mistake of lowering your Maxima. The 7th gen has the least ground clearance (4 1/2 inches) of any Maxima ever made, and already won't clear most of the speed bumps around where I live. With the slush you folks get between October and April, you will need all the ground clearance you can get.

Yes I know for the slush, lived it in march april with the new ''summer'' tire when I got the car, not so nice. I had a Saab 93 V6T before and bought some studded tires (himalaya if I remember well...) and was stunned of the performance I could get in montréal in snow ice....

Don't worry for the lowering, I'm finding it low enough. To access my parking place in the back of my home, I have to get there by a 600 foot backstreet. There a lot of big delivery truck going by there on the winter (like 20+ a day) but the city still not clean the snow from there (stupid Tremblay mayor!!!). Hope I'll make it. My bro with an Altima 2.5 rushed ALOT last winter!

Been following this forum for a month now and I love it. This is my first post but i have messaged a couple people and they have been nothing but helpful. I recently had a 08 Altima, about 3 weeks ago I purchased 2011 White Maxima SV w/premium/ tech, spoiler. I love this car!!. I live in Southern Cali so its very typical to get a Mercedes or BMW., which was my first choice. I test drove the C-Class and 3 series convertible. I came back and drove the Maxima and was sold. I don't regret this decision at all. I am and continue to turn heads in this car. People have come up asking me what kind of car is that, can i see the inside. (this coming from people in audi's, bmw). The sporty but luxury look is amazing. Every time i park this car, I stare and look at it lol, its beautiful. Only had the windows tinted, (5 percent) but mods coming soon. Look forward to interacting with you all on this site.

Only had the windows tinted, (5 percent) but mods coming soon. Look forward to interacting with you all on this site.
Congrats on your purchase! I had one guy in a Mercedes C-class stop and just look at the car, hah! That was pretty satisfying. But, yeah, I often see people trying to figure out what kind of car it is. They have no idea that it drives as good as it looks!

Thanks. haha yes it is satisfying. that C-class isn't doing it for me. Way too small. I'm 6'2, not enough leg room for me. and yes, drives beautifully. I have a heavy foot so I have to watch it lol

^ Just to let you know, I had a C-Class before this (08 C300) and am way happier with this ride. I also turn back and stare and the response this car has on the low and high end is much better. I used to have to really go down on the pedal to pass someone up on the freeway and now I do it with ease. It was a beautiful "looking" car, because I always like to hookup and clean my cars, but i don't like having expensive stuff for looks.

Just picked up a 2011 Maxima Dark Slate SV + Premium, it's my first ride. I love it so far.

I followed the posts of the forum before getting mine, test drive totally convinced me for it .

Dealer offered me a package which helps protect the bumper from chips etc, since I never owned a car myself, didn't bother for it. Do you guys think that's important, should I go back and get one?

nice man, congrats on the new ride! it might not hurt to look at the bumper plan but what might pay off more is the wheel/rim protection plan depending on where you live. the cost of it is paid for with 1 bent rim.

Been a Maxima fan for years. Had a 97, 99, 03, 04 and now a 2010. Nissan let me return my 08 Altima lease 8 months early. Dark slate sport.$1200 total out of pocket and $340 a month. Love my max. Almost 15k miles on it and not even a year yet. Best Max I had to date. My 04 which I bought new and had for 7 years had nothing but problems. Recently traded in for Altima due to bad tranny.

I don't get on here as much as i would like to. I have an 09 dark slate with charcoal interior. It has the carbon fiber trim look on the inside. I absolutely love this car. I previously owned an 04 and decided to buy the 09 when it came out. I've tinted all the windows and the tail lights except for the white area. I originally did the tail lights myself but I got rear ended and so I just had the body shop redo them for me. I have a cold air intake and a sound system. I also have 20" F5 racing rims. I'm out of town right now but I try and post some more pics when i get back. You guys can check my album for 2 pics of my car. Can anyone tell me how to post pics with these messages?

Just bought a 2011 Maxima S a few days ago. I LOVE IT!! There are a few things I'd like to change if possible. One being the stock stereo system. Is there a way to add subs to it w/o tearing the dash apart? Also I saw on youtube you can put blue led's on the instrument cluster, is there a way to change the backlight on the radio/ac screen as well? Just not a big fan of the orange. I plan on adding a spoiler, definitely makes it look better. I look forward to learning all about the tips and tricks on the Maxima as I am a first time owner.

Sorry my bad with all the plans, I forget what it was. It wasn't any protection on back, its chip protector to the front, he quoted 1000$ bucks is that a good quote? I live in Redmond-Seattle area, is it good to take wheel plan?

Thanks for the reply
