Wish they would have gone with a 6 disc MP3 changer instead of the music box function. Who is really going to take the time to download CD's to the harddrive....who buys CD's anymore anyway.
Remember this baby was designed six years ago in 2006, and the first 2009s were for sale on dealer lots June of 2008. Technology moves too fast these days.

Loading the CDs to the music box was so easy, in that I simply press one little button while listening to the CD, and every track on that CD is stored on the music box within ten minutes. Then I put the CDs back on the shelf at home and never touch them again.

CDs have been around for quite a while. There are many young folks here who do not have hundreds of carefully chosen and treasured CD's filed at home, but there are probably a hundred million folks in the U.S. who do, and who would have lesser interest in a vehicle without full CD capability.

Of course you are correct that an MP3 changer is also needed. I would not be surprised to see the 2012 'half gen' Maxima add full MP3 changer options.

Music box would make everything else obsolete, except for the fact that you have to download it by CD'S!!! If you could download by memory stick or iPod it'd be a game changer.

Agreed.....great idea but bad execution. I understand the point above but regarding the pace of technology but I had a 6 disc MP3 changer in an 06 Jeep GC Limited and it was much more user friendly. They should have held off on the music box untill they had it perfected. Seems like in this day and age it should be pretty easy to format the sytem to download from a thumb drive or iPod. Still gotta say the iPod interface is the best I've ever seen. I just go with the iPod or XM.

As I stated previously I'm a little disappointed that the upgraded models do not come with any type of badge ID. I mean an SV Sport is considerably more expensive than a base model....you would think Nissan would badge the car similar to the infiniti S models. So that being said I'm strongly considering purchasing a red infiniti S badge and adhering it to the rear end in the appropriate spot. Whats the verdict...lame or not lame?

I agree that the lack of badging on the passenger side of the trunk doesnt look right so thats why I shaved MAXIMA off. In regards to putting the Infiniti S badge on yours. I personally wouldnt do it but to each their own. At least it will be different~

I can respect the opinion regarding the use of badging from another brand but I would contend that the Maxima SV Sport is as much "S" as a G37 Sport "S" sedan. Both vehicle packages run V6 engines (Maxima 3.6 @ 290 hp / G37 3.7 @ 328 hp) and only upgrade suspension and appearance packages. The Infiniti does upgrade the braking system on the G which Nissan does not do for the Maxima. However Nissan did go the extra mile stiffening the body in the front and the rear. The rear is stiffened by bulkhead behind the seat which accounts for the small pass thru in lieu of the 60/40 split in the other models. The Maxima isn't going to win a drag race with the G37 but given the similarities I'm of the opinion that the Infinit G37 Sport is no more "S" than the Maxima SV Sport. Maxima looks the part with the 19" wheels which are head and shoulders above the 18" provide on the G37.

U forgot the fact that the G37S is a rwd 6 spd manual, and we are a FWD CVT, that adds alot more "S". Im jus sayin, the badging only belongs on that car just my opinion.

Eh...not buying it. A well engineered CVT gives you the ability to consistently run the engine at the RPM where it produces the most torque. There is nothing non-sports car about this. I know purist would like to say that a sports car is defined by rear wheel drive but I don't buy into that. If I did I wouldn't have bought a Maxima. I've driven both....other than loosign the a__ end of the G when accelerating around corners and having the steering wheel wrenched out of your hand doing the same thing in a Maxima, I don't see a whole lot of difference. Accept the fact that you get less car for about the same money in the G and an interior the size of a civic. As I said before I can respect the opinion about using badging from another brand. It's to bad Nissan left me to my own devices on this. Even the old lame SE tag would have looked better.

Yeah I've almost made it to 2000 songs on my music box (fuggin...CD....by.....CD). I've spent so much time on that shizer. I'm scared if anything happens in the next 7 years (my warranty) and I have to fix it, they will have to wipe the drive. That's why I hope they have the technology themselves to save my songs (or transfer them) if they have to change out my music box or something.

When it comes to straight line performance, the 7 Gen Maxima definitley gets a check in the box, trust me I am amazed at how quick this car is when already rolling. When it comes to getting the car around corners it doesnt quite make it, bc of the heavy weight and havin almost 300 hp all going to the front wheels makes it hard to corner with. So yes, in one category it is a sports car and in one category it isnt

Those interested in adding 'badging' to the rear of their car can look around the net and find chrome letters and numbers available in any size, shape and font.

I could see someone adding 'SV+S' or 'SV+P' or even 'SVS' or 'SVP' to the right side of the trunk. The possibilities are endless. Some might even slap 'SPORT' on the right side of the rear. If done using letters that are the same size as those used in the word 'MAXIMA', that might look OK.

One thing to remember is that the trunk bows out from top to bottom, so letters over an inch tall will not fit snug against the trunk.

I agree with you on your assessment of cornering characteristics but if that is the definition of a sports car then every American muscle car fails miserably. It all comes down to ones opinion in what exact characteristics justify the label "sport". I still hold my initial opinion that the 7th Gen Maxima SV Sport is just as "Sport" as a G37S.

When i use my garmin nuvi i have a bean bag mount that i had with my O7, i had a problem where to put it, it dont really fit good on the dash, so i sit it right forward of the center arm rest, granted it is kind of a pain to see what it is telling you but it talks to you and you can follow it that way, i have not really found a good place for it, and i wont put it in the windshield, so i guess i will have to live with it, I like the nuvi better than the nav system, i wish nissan would take some hints from garmin and get some good maps.

I just got a brand new 2011 SV in Brilliant Silver with Charcoal leather about 2 weeks ago and have about 375 miles on it right now. It has the monitor, sport and sport technology packages. Fully loaded to my liking! I must say this car is a huge step forward from my 2008 SE that was also fully loaded including factory chrome 19" wheels.
I just love this car and the looks are outstanding to go along with the performance. I hope to get it detailed in the next couple of weeks as my new shipment of Adam's polishes will be arriving next week.
Again kudos to Nissan for making such an outstanding car!

A Maxima is a lot more fun to drive in Colorado than it is in most parts of eastern US. In most parts of Colorado, in less than an hour's drive (sometimes in just minutes), you can find roads that have little traffic, and open roads make driving a fine car like the Maxima so much more enjoyable.

So, so true lightonthehill. My favorite road is the Cache La Poudre just northwest of Ft. Collins. I take my motorcycle up there all the time. I will be taking the Maxima up there soon.

seat issue
I've always owned a Nissan. I initally loved my 09 maxima, even told others to buy it. BUT, the heated/cooled drivers seat stopped working some time ago (the light would go on for a moment only when the car was started). It has been to the dealer (Len Stoller) THREE times, still not working. Now i'm told "Nissan engineers are working on a solution" but NO idea when it might be available. A black car, with black leather seats is beautiful - but darn hot in 99 degree Baltimore weather. Worse, "no idea" when the engineers will come up with a solution. Also, there are a few other quirks (with "key" etc) that have lessened my confidence in Nissan as a reliable car maker. Too bad, if things could be fixed (easily) it would be a great car.

You my friend, qualify for a lemon . Did that with my 2004 Nissan Armada, they had to take the car back after a year, give me FULL price and the cash of my trade.

If a problem can't be fixed in three times, and there is no recall or Service Bulletin, its a lemon. You should just get it checked a 4th time from another dealer, if they can't fix it, file it.

I recently purchased a 2011 Maxima S. I love it so far. I have one question if anyone can help me. My model is S and is base, no extra options. I have the phone blue tooth option and have connected my smart phone. Is there anyway to get the audio from my phone to stream over the bluetooth, if so how, or is that option only available for different audio option/packages? Thank you in advance.

Skiddy, thats not possible unless you have the technology package, which gives you Navigation and bluetooth streaming audio. There maybe an add-on somewhere you can buy to help you do this though.

Hopefully not too much of a hijack here but I'm new and not allowed to start a new thread until I post 15 times and I only post when I have something to add so it's kind of a Catch-22 for me!

I'm looking to purchase a new 2011 SV Premium and we've test drove it twice. I love it. My wife is a die-hard Maxima fan and won't let me sell out 1999 SE Limited but it's time for a new car so we'll keep the 1999 and have a nice 2011 as its stablemate.

So here's a question for those of you that have the car and are happy with it - do any of your wives or girlfriends have a problem with the large dash? My wife keeps telling me that after both test drives she thought she was straining to look over the immense dash. She's used to our 1999 and admits that she's not good with change!

I told her she could probably tweak the seats and make a lot more adjustments than just the customary 1-minute job we did at the test drives. She's only 5'2" and gave me the green light to get this 2011 SV but STILL brings up the fact that it's got that "expansive dash".

Happy to hear both the good and bad. Thanks and please delete if this is too much of a hijack.

I'd have to agree with the statements above. I'm a Colorado native and after 30 years here I find no reason to leave. Our Super Black 7th has enjoyed her first week on Colorado pavement....596 miles now!

Colorado peeps........we need to have a nissan meet soon!!

Just got my 2011 Black SV Premium Pkg 2 weeks ago. I got this as a company car and am loving it!! The first day already did a full LED swap inside and out. Just ordered my GTR start button, under drive pulley, CAI, grounding kit, strut and sway bars. The only thing I'm not liking is the the softness in the steering and electronics. I test drove the charger and ford SHO. The Maxima was way more luxurious then the others which is what i wanted, but the others had a way better control center with a touch screen and more functional for a tech like me. With that being said I will shoot myself for not holding off one year if the 2012 Maxima comes out with something like that. But on the other hand this is only a 3 year car for me. ALL IN ALL I'm loving this car. Everyone enjoy. Any so-cal car clubs members here.

I also have the Premium Package, and I am able to lower my driver seat until I have trouble seeing over the dash, or raising it till my head touches the roof. Has she moved the seat forward and raised it up as far as it will go?

My only vision complaints with this 7th gen were rear vision and judging where the front fenders were (the outer part is not visible from the driver seat). The rear vision issue was eliminated by the back-up camera (I used it to back up over a quarter mile on a really tight rural path that had no place to turn), and I quickly became accostomed to the front fenders. I dread the time the 8th gens arrive and I trade this car in. I love it.

Sounds like you got everything except the built-in woman in the passenger seat. But when you begin cruising in this baby, the women will magically appear.

With this global whatever, winter frost is a good choice. Let us know how things go with your new baby. You should be able to find answers to most of your questions somewhere in all these threads.

As stated already, the seat has a wide range for height adjustment. As for the front, you quickly get used to judging the car width. The lines on the hood run high, and provide a great point of reference for the front and the side of the car.

She should have no problem.

Agreed
Quote: these cars were intended for premium but can still run on regular 87 octane. don't be fooled by hearsay.
and the running rough is normal. its the ECU pulling timing to prevent detonation.
hence why on the fuel door it always says "Premium fuel recommended for maximum performance" the key word is recommended...but not absolutely necessary.
Cars that recommend premium fuel are set up for higher compression, and lower octane fuels combust more easily = detonation. Higher Octane fuels also have a higher content of detergents, but only with the big companies like Shell and BP. Kangaroo and Marathon and all the kwik-E stops will not have much higher levels of detergents in their premium gas versus regular. Detergents are a good thing. They protect your valves from carbon deposits building up.

We are so happy with our '97 I30 (we got it in 2000 with 18K on it) that we just got a 2011 Max! We're still keeping the '97, but it probably won't get much use 'cause the new Max ROCKS! We like the feel of the CVT. We're both used to a manual trans (the car we're getting rid of) but don't mind just mashing the gas and letting 'er rip!

After one week I'm still trying to get familiar with all the features, I love the way this car looks and the great performance.
