OK, Who Bought One? What do you think?
Just bought a 2011 Maxima S a few days ago. I LOVE IT!! There are a few things I'd like to change if possible. One being the stock stereo system. Is there a way to add subs to it w/o tearing the dash apart? Also I saw on youtube you can put blue led's on the instrument cluster, is there a way to change the backlight on the radio/ac screen as well? Just not a big fan of the orange. I plan on adding a spoiler, definitely makes it look better. I look forward to learning all about the tips and tricks on the Maxima as I am a first time owner.

To add subs. You can add a line converter tapped into the rear speakers, and hook that up to the aftermarket amp. Or if you want better sound you could spend a little more money and use a bass restoration device.

This is a difficult decision to consider. Have: 2002 SE which I got in Sept-2004 with 39K miles. I've got 225K miles now and am facing some problems here and there.
I spotted a 2009 in Dark Slate Metallic, black leather interior and oh yeah, the SV with 78k on the clock in the lower $20k range. Nav, bose, bluetooth..
Used car payment or try to repair the 2002... Any thoughts?

Hello,
I'm new to the forum, but have been reading quite a while. I have driven Maximas for over 20 years, and I'm ready to buy a new one. I love the looks of this generation. (would have purchased it sooner but my current 2000 Maxima refuses to die)
I was looking originally for an SV with Premium and Tech Package. I have seen many attractively priced cars WITHOUT the premium package, but with Tech, Monitor, Cold, etc. added to the SV.
It looks like I would lose some features like Paddle Shifters, some interior trim upgrades, etc.
Is there an opinion on the value of the items I would lose? I know its hard to judge and its a personal preference. Just looking for some insight from those that have used it daily.
Thank you.

^^^Paddle shifters are never used in my car, although I think they make the steering column look nicer and sportier, thet teescoping steering wheel and memory seat system is nice if you share the car with another person, you each have a key and the seat position, steering wheel and mirrors are automatically set when you get in the car. Id say the most important thing to get is Cold and the Tech package. Those are two things I couldnt live without!!
That is one of the three small orange lights that comprise the 'mood lighting' system.
The one near the map light casts a dim, soft glow over the console area, in case you are driving in a very dark area and need to access something down there (such as your cup of Mountain Dew).
There is also one underneath the upper part of each front door armrest casting a glow onto the switches that operate the windows and door locks.

Thank you Caraddict, supared and lightonthehill for you help...
Another question...is there a way to stop all the prompts when I am making a call using bluetooth?? Its very annoying when you have to wait through all the prompts to make a quick call...

So far I'm really enjoying the 2011 SV I bought a couple weeks ago. It just has a spoiler and a couple of other small things on it. I wanted the sport package but couldn't find one locally. The only problem I'm having is I bought a new Titan SV a week before, so I stand there staring at the keys not sure which one to take out, lol.
They are both great vehicles.
I've had 2 other Maximas in the past. A 1997 black SE 5-speed, and a 2003 silver SE 6-speed.

Just press the voice button again it will skip the prompts, i do this all the time when making calls or using the voice activated Navi
Maxima just cost me a speeding ticket 53 in a 30. When you are going 40-50 it feels so slow. I think I was going about 43-45 but cop said 53. Going to court, not looking to get 6 points on my first ever ticket and pull over ever.
I'm ready to by my Maxima:
- Premium
- Premium Tech
- Splash Guards
- Spoiler
- Mats
Not sure whether white or silver, and I have shopped many dealers for price.
One dealer put on dealer add ons, and I would like some input on how you would value these. They installed:
- Undercoat Sound Inhibitor
- Pinstripes
- Wheel Locks
- Paint Sealant
They put a price of $770 on these. I certainly don't think they are worth $770. But...
A different dealer said you should NOT put undercoat on the Maxima, like this dealer has done. He said it closes holes that are there for a reason and will do nothing to reduce sound.
Just looking for comments. I am so torn on which Maxima to buy. I guess when the day is done, I will love it whether white, silver, or these other items.

^fyi i have the splash guards and they do nothing to block splashes but they do look nice.
I dont see a point of paint sealant when the car already has clearcoat and a good coat of wax will probably be just as good.
All the other stuff you can probably add later on and save money.

"wheel well sound inhibitor"
does this really do anything? Another dealer said it could do harm?
i picked up a 2011 S in crimson black after i got bad gas in my 2009 white S
still a great car :-D
only concern is an intermittent popping when i back out of my driveway on a slight incline. when i say slight, i mean, maybe like a 46 degree angle
its happened three times in the past two weeks
should i set the emergency brake?

There is already some type of insulation inside the wheel wells. It kinda looks like carpet. Take a look at a maxima when you get a chance.

I bought my ocean gray 2011 Maxima SV +monitor and cold packages in April. I thought I’d wait a while before I added to this thread. I have to say that after 4 months I still crave driving ‘her’ and I still look upon her fondly as I approach her in the garage. I’ve been vacationing a bit this summer and I must admit I missed the car!
I looked around a lot before making this purchase. I looked at luxury sedans, sports cars, and crossovers. The car that had set the mark for me for the longest time was the Hyundai Genesis sedan. I thought I wanted a luxury car. Then I tried a G37 not knowing much about it—wow, hot car. But I left that experience thinking I should check out the Maxima. Until then it hadn’t been on the radar. So I did—and wow, hot car! Several things sold me on the Maxima—the fun-factor, compartment size, and price.
For me, the Maxima is a cool looking car—really cool looking rear end. Inside it is spacious, comfortable, and nicely appointed. I don’t feel like I’m sitting on the ground, and I can tweak things so my driving position fits. I’m tall (6’1”) with long legs and in most cars I usually feel I’m either reaching for the wheel or my knees are up against the lower dash. But the real pleasure of the Maxima is that while it has refinement, it is far from tame. It accelerates with a nice roar, it corners well, it purrs at upper cruising speeds, and the transmission is fun when you want to control things yourself. Read this article: http://www.maximaclub.org/2009-maxima.shtml; it talks about what the engineers wanted to achieve. I stumbled across it after I brought the car home and found that the things they focused on were the things I noticed about the car.
For the power and thrill that I get from the car I find it still does well on gas mileage. I average 24-25 mpg in my week-to-week driving and that includes side tour romp time on back roads. I couldn’t be happier with a car!
As far as mods—I’m thinking exhaust. I love the sound of this car but find I want to hear a bit more. I’m also considering a beefier rear sway bar and a strut tower bar. I want to take this car to the track!

If this is a no-no, mods please delete.
For those in the DC/MD/VA area and are looking for a Max, this was the #2 on my list:

Good luck!

also its much cheaper to replace the emergency brake or cable than the transmission. i know both covered under warranty but i need my transmission for driving so i use my brake for parking to keep the car in the best condition i can
We had a 2009 S leased in late November of 2008. We picked up a new 2011 S today in Indianapolis. The deal was very smooth and the price was right. $28 per month less than the 2009 and zero down, taxes and bank fee rolled in along with the last 6 lease payments. The deals are here right now to buy or lease. The price was $54 a month less than competing dealers.
The 2011 is smoother, seems more refined..less touchy throttle and brakes and less noisy accelerating. The ride is better but that may be the new tires...just seemed the 2009 had a stiffer ride from the beginning. The CVT is very smooth selects "gears" quickly and without a fuss while the 2009 could be a little abrupt and seemed to hesitate just a fraction and then change ratios suddenly with a lot of noise from the noise generator when accelerating.
We like everything about this car... ride, handling, comfort and performance and when this lease is up, there will be another Maxima in the garage. The salesman was superb and we were in and out in less than an hour, the best car buying experience ever.

Just bought a 2011 SV with cold, monitring packages plus technology. Owned a 95 300z when in college. I have owned only Hondas since then. Oh my god have i been missing out!! I love this car. it is definately a keeper. My wife drives a 2011 Honda Pilot and now wants to swap cars with me. Maximas are sweet!!!! Plus 3000.00 labor day rebate. Stole this for 31800.00 plus rubber mats and 2 years free oil change and tire rotation. Love this car!!!!!
Things to remember about usage of the parking brake:
1 - Using the parking brake puts absolutely no wear on the brake pads or rotors, unless the car is moved with the parking brake applied.
2 - It only applies braking to the rear wheels, so when used as an emergency brake, it is difficult to stop the car when moving briskly, as the rear braking system is smaller than the front, and normally handles far less of the braking than the front system does.
3 - Applying the parking brake when parking takes pressure off the tranny. I have broken the pin in automatic trannies by putting them in park on hills and forgetting to apply the parking brake.
4 - Applying the parking brake means a car thief cannot simply raise the front of your car (which is the end he must raise when stealing a FWD car) with a wrecker and drive off, because the rear wheels will not roll freely with the parking brake applied.
5 - Apply only the pressure needed to keep the car from rolling. Clamping pads down very tightly on a rotor and leaving them there can sometimes result in rotor warping.
6 - If having done considerable braking just before parking, remember that the rotors and pads will be very hot, and applying the parking brake and leaving it applied in that instance can sometimes cause the brake pads to affix themselves to the hot rotor, or even warp the rotor.
Disclaimer - A newer parking brake system in some vehicles does not apply the pad directly to the rotor, in which case #5 and #6 above may not apply. I'm not sure if the Maxima uses the new system or not.
