Anyone Know How To Hack The 09 GPS??
Navi updating software for location information
Hi All.. New to this group and am poking around about an issue I have recently had. My navigation system often displays a message stating that location info is not available when I am attempting to choose a route. So I'll go through, enter all the address info, it finds the address/city/etc and then when I try to choose it I get the above kickback.... Any way I can load an update for the navi so it has all the info? Might be a dumb question but I am not really 'car electronics savvy' so pardon my naivety. Thanks all!

I'm in Bayside New York right outside of the city but I had a couple of addresses in Conneticut that I had to visit last week that wouldn't come up and also an address on eastern Long Island that wouldn't come up. I'd hate to have to drop 190 bucks on an update for this thing but it seems thats what I'll have to do.
but ill ask is there anybody still paying for there XM nav pack?? is it really that much of a dif, i dont notice anything but XM radio i dont need that BS we all have a hard drive plus our ipods..
also can someone send a complete list of what needs to be done to hack the gps and make it possible to view videos while driving i tried the whole aux thing but i was only able to hear not watch while thr E brake was on.

The XM Nav thing is only for the traffic reports. Seems that ONLY major highways report. Since there's so little coverage in my area, I removed it. But, I AM keeping the XMradio activated. I've been an XM fan for quite some time now.
I don't think we ever got a straight answer from anyone who has done this hack. Can you play video's while in motion? I am really looking at getting this option done for my long road trip in July to Alabama from Missorui. The wife will be traveling with me and I it would make the trip more bearable for her. Any help would be great from those of you who have taken the leap!
I founds this while browsing http://www.tvandnav.com/index.asp?Pa...ROD&ProdID=189
its 350$ but supposedly plug and play.

I went to the website you posted and it looks very promising!!! I plan on calling them tomorrow to see if I can get more information. If all goes well I WILL be purchasing this option and have it installed. So I will let all of you know of the progress once I make contact tomorrow!
You may need to adjust the time on the unit to wait a little longer before pushing the button. At the current time we arn't planning on modifying our hardware for this issue.

the only thing is find the smallest 12v dvd player that i can put in the handrest console instead of using the headrest dvd player.
All,
I'm in NJ and can most likely do this install for anyone, it looks simple enough. I JUST came across this thread and am reading some of the literature.
Netjack has already contacted me, so he'll be the guinea pig.
Hang tight fellas, a solution is near!
edit: and as an FYI, I also do suspension and other general audio installs for local org members.

I've collected some of the links that might be useful:
manual for dis-assembly:
http://filebox.vt.edu/users/tacomatt...ment_Panel.pdf
pics from fellow board members that's done it:
http://forums.maxima.org/members/350...-gps-hack.html
The manual for the interface module:
http://www.kptechnologies.com/docs/N...stallation.pdf
What is a fair price for someone to charge to get this done?

Our cars don't have DVD players just cd players. If you have the AUX input jacks hidden in the center/armrest storage bin, then you can plug a portable up to it. That is when the brake has to be in park to watch.
Ok guys djfrestyl and I finally got around to attempting to the install KP Technologies Navigation Interface Module (NI 35).
We came very close but weren't able to determine which of the wires in the 20pin connector behind the radio is the "ok" wire. Our alternative was to solder directly to the circuit board but the points were literally less than 3 mm apart (too dangerous). From triangulating from other sources, we believe we narrowed it down to 5 (see pic). It's either the no 8 (green w/ red), 9 (purple w/ white), 10 (purple w/ green) on the top row or no 8 (green), 9 (pink w/ black) in the bottom row. Can anyone advise?

Any chance of getting a picture of the back of the navi unit showing all the plugs?
From my experiance, there has never been a "wire" to connect to (or else we wouldn't solder to the board).
There should be two wires to connect as the "ENTER" button is on a data bus, it is not just a simple switch.
The "ENTER" connection should be made at the box that the "ENTER" button resides in - it most likely is NOT behind the radio. I have never personally worked on a Maxima, so I can't confirm this, but from the pictures I've seen that is my belief.
To verify the correct two wires you can use an ohm meter connected between the two wires (or points) and press the "ENTER" button. If the ohm meter drops to ~0 ohms then you know you have the right two connections.
On the G35s and G37s the "ENTER" traces do come to a connector, but the connector is a ribbon cable - it has no wires coming out of it. The connector looks like this:

Ok, just to clarify, the picture above is the 20x2 (40pin) connector behind the radio. From the 5 wires, we need the following 3: VSS, parking brake, reverse (netjack has a reverse cam)
The 'OK' Button that we are looking for is in another harness altogether. That one is the one that connects to the navigation control board above the radio near the screen. KP Technologies has been able to isolate the two wires needed in that harness in other cars (07-08 G35), but not yet in the 09 Maxima, hence their instructions to solder to the pinouts from the OK switch on the circuit board itself. We want those wires, not the circuit board leads.
So we know where the wires are, we're just not sure which is which. Who's got technical diagrams?

The control module for the navigation has one harness on it - probably about an 8x2 (16 pins)
We didn't get a picture of that
KP, if you're able to connect the two wires directly to the pinouts right at the harness connector, then why can't you just tap the wires connecting to the pins on the harness side?

You will still get continuity if you push the button. It's a matrix type multiplex (like a computer keyboard). There are multiple inputs and outputs that go through an array of switches so the switches still function as normal, but they are only powered every so often.
Here is the '09 service manual: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/2009/
Have you found the correct wires (VSS and reverse) in that harness? Netjack made it sound like you had that part done. If you can find the actual pins to the "ENTER" button then you should be able to use a continuity meter to determine if the pins go out to the harness.
Just let everyone know...
The KP Technologies Navi Interface Module...
has SUCCESSFULLY been installed in netjack's '09 Maxima w/Nav. We had a couple issues and a few hoops to jump through, but thanks to Kevin from KP, we were able to resolve all of them.
NO soldering necessary. Please stand by for full write-up, including all necessary wire colors & procedures.

Yup, my car was the guinea pig and we were successfully able to install it. We've taken detailed pictures which we're in the process of converting into a step by step tutorial. It should be noob proof so almost anyone who can splice wires should be able to do this. It should be completed by the end of the weekend and we will place it in a new thread and post the link here.
Thx
