Has anyone had any experience with http://www.prestigioussociety.com/ they sell plug and play modules to enhance DVD? I was wanting a way for my son to watch DVD's while I'm driving. I'm not a huge fan of taking panels off of new cars lol.. I guess its a phobia or something. I read some things where you can wire switches up to ground your vss and e-brake but i was wanting something less permenant like the plug and play type. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. I have a 2011 sv with sport and tech.

Has anyone experienced a clicking noise up in the dash area when driving straight then swerving left or right? The radio needs to be off to hear it. Kinda sounds like something rolling side to side and hitting metal. Well after some investigation, I pulled the black plastic wiper cowl off and found an "unknown" white plastic piece sitting just below the lower center of the windshield between two metal braces that support the windshield. It was just sitting in there rolling around but was trapped in there. What a lucky find...no more noise. It was driving me crazy. I have a picture of the piece but I can't upload pics yet.
I believe it's a left-over part from the assembly line? After looking at it for a while, I just can't figure out what it could be for and where it was trapped was very wierd because nothing could have gotten into that spot with everything assembled
Hi All,
Does anyone know the specs of the stock Maxima wheels? Either the 18" or 19", I think they are identical in design except for size. Edit: just checked, the 19" are different in design and the one I'm looking to buy for my car
I'm looking for the offset, hub size (is Nissan all 66.1?), and width for front and back for the 19" wheels.
Thanks!

Hey everyone! I just picked up my new 2011 Maxima Premium/Tech on Friday and I'm loving it. I searched for a few different forums and decided to give this one a go...it seemed to be the best one out there. Cheers!
I have a 96 maxima and am going to do a tranny coverson to a 5 speed. I have a auto non lsd non abs tranny now. I know my way around a wrench and can figure it out but its my only driver right now so i dont want any supprises. I have an idea of what all i have to have but does anyone have a list and can give me some guidence on how to do this without any screwups?
I thought I would search around some more but came up short again. To add to the mix I am also handicap and need to use hand controls for the gas and brake. I have looked into a few things, but was wondering if anyone is in the same situation or knows someone with a modified maxima. While I dont think it will be a problem I am just looking for more info.
Transmisson problems
Hi all,
I have a 2001 GLE, and it has started to give me some transmission problems. It all started about a year ago, in the winter. Every time the car is cold and i stop at a light, the car shifts itself into neutral. At which point I try to accelerate, the car revs, but does not go anywhere. Then the car will shift itself back into drive and jerk forward.
This problem only happens if the car has to stop when its cold. If the car get time to shift every gear 3 or 4 times its fine. In other words, if i drive around for 10 minutes before stopping the car is good.
Any ideas as to what the problem could be? The problem also does not seem to make gotten worse over the year, and in the summer the problem is not even there!
I know this is not my forum, but I don't have 15 posts yet, so i cannot make my own.
Thanks for any help.

Just being curious here but I was wondering over the years the Maxima's have put on a bit of weight. My 02 is around 3200 curb weight and I looked up the new ones to be around 3500. Another obvious thing is that from my year to these new ones the horsepower has been uped by 35 hp. Also read somewhere that the 7th gens can do 0-60's in 5.9 second. That is around exactly the time the lighter 2002 Standards do. So my question here for the owners is this Even though the Maxima's are a bit heavier then they used to be, can you still feel that pick up when you step on it? Over the years I have seen many articles saying that the Maxima went from one of the first "Family Sport Sedans" to being not very sporty since the newer ones each year have seemed to put on more weight.

Reccomended fuel is premium (91+) and min 89
now what about oil? I believe ester oil is reccomended, what viscosity?
and how often? every 3K? I thought these newer cars are good at around every 7500 miles.
this is our 2nd car, and all the spirited driving is done on the Z06, so we don't mind putting 89 in this car, and if the manual states 7500 for oil, then I don't see why I should do 3000.
I'm asking because my girl has the car and she's at work, so I can't look in the manual now, and curiosity killed the cat
so, all in short
min octane is 89 according to manual
and how often for oil change, and what kind of oil (synth and viscosity?)

As a condition of your vehicle's warranty, you are responsible for properly maintaining your vehicle. In
maintaining your vehicle, you should follow either Schedule 1 or Schedule 2 as listed below. Use these
guidelines to determine which maintenance schedule to use.
SCHEDULE 1 (more severe operating
conditions), every 3,750 miles or 3
months, whichever comes first
Use Schedule 1 if you primarily operate your
vehicle under any of these conditions:
Repeated short trips of less than 5 miles in
normal temperatures or less than 10 miles in
freezing temperatures
Stop-and-go traffic in hot weather or lowspeed driving for long distances
Driving in dusty conditions or on rough,
muddy, or salt-spread roads
Towing a trailer, or using a camper
or car-top carrier
SCHEDULE 2 (less severe operating
conditions), every 7,500 miles or 6
months, whichever comes first
Schedule 2 features 7,500-mile service
intervals; with Schedule 2 fewer maintenance items are regularly checked or
replaced than with Schedule 1.
Generally, Schedule 2 applies only to
highway driving in temperate conditions.
Use Schedule 2 only if you primarily operate
your vehicle under conditions other than
those listed in Schedule 1.

Manual is correct that 89 works in this car. I switched from premium to 89 eighteen months after buying my '09 ('10 and '11 have same engine/setup), and measured absolutely no change in MPG and detected no change in performance after the change. If I was running time trials at the track, I would stick with premium, but my everyday type of driving does not benefit from using premium. I would NEVER put regular (87 octane) in this car.
As to oil, any of the four major types (dino, synthetic blend, full synthetic or esther) works very well in this car. Not too many folks use the esther because it is very expensive. Also not too many use a synthetic blend. A few more use dino (which is probably used by most everyday drivers who use the car primarily for transportation), but the oil most used by members of this board is probably full synthetic. No matter which oil you choose, the specified viscosity is 5W-30, but I would not be afraid to use 10W-30 in very warm climates.
Almost nobody changes at exactly 3K intervals. Nissan specifies 3750 mile intervals for all but optimum driving conditions. That way, oil change intervals fall on the 7500, 15000, etc, routine maintenance mileage spots. Those using synthetic should be able to go further between changes - at least 5000, probably 7500 miles.
There is an 'oil and lubricants' section elsewhere on maxima.org with far more details.
I have 2 two questions. But first I want to thank everyone for being so helpful I been reading through and found a lot of good info. OK # 1 My bluetooth in my 2011 will connect to my phone for about half a day and then disconnected never to connect again except for about 30 seconds every time I try a bunch of times. I have added and deleted them from each other still no fix. I had the phone replaced 3 times in the last week. It will work then not work again.
Second. Will IPOD vids only work with the component cable connection? Thank you
Second. Will IPOD vids only work with the component cable connection? Thank you
to answer my own question about bluetooth...If you are having this issue delete all special characters and numbers in contact names. If you have a feeling this is the problem unpair the phone then re pair and deny the phone book access request. Hopefully this saves someone the hours of troubleshooting it took me!
oh i have been using it as a mini reading light if i don't feel like turning on the overly bright cabin lights.
Is there a way to have the stereo volume cut off or reduce itself when the nav guidance is talking? I know how to adjust the stereo volume, and know how to adjust the nav guidance volume. On other cars I've had there was an option to automatically silence the stereo when nav talked.
Also, when driving and with the map on the display and i push the SAT or AM/FM button, the screen changes from the map to the display that shows what is playing on the stereo. Any way to prevent that so that I don't have to keep pressing the map button every time I change the audio source?
Thanks. BTW this is on a 2011 SV with premium and tech packages.

Yes, I have their NAV override system module in my LS460L, and it works perfectly and as advertised.
The override works both on the NAV and Phone systems when the car is moving, of course, for safety, I let my passenger input the info.
Their customer service and instructions are top notch, though I had it professionally installed.

Regarding changing audio sources while displaying the map, just change the source using the source button on the steering wheel. The map will not disappear.
