I am looking at taking my car back to the dealer to get the color matching factory splash guards installed. Are they even worth installing on the Maxima? I'm just asking since they don't look like a standard mudflap and they don't really look all that functional. Just curious.

Question 2. I have always ran Mobil One in all of my cars and I am looking to see if anyone else runs Mobil One in their Maxima. I do mostly highway driving and historically have changed the Mobil One at 5k mile intervals although looking at the service manual, I see a 3,750k recommendation. Will running Mobil One at 5k mile intervals do anything to void the factory warranty?

IMO they are not functional at all. They do look pretty good tho.

As Car Addict said, the Nissan OEM splash guards are purely cosmetic. Many here have made small black hard rubber mud flaps and attached them to the face of the OEM splash guards. These flaps probably could also be attached to the face of the fender well on a car without OEM splash guards.

There are instructions on how to do this here somewhere in the stickies. The cost is only around $20 or $30 bucks (just mostly trimming down some el-cheapo generics from Pep Boys or other auto store), and the resulting flaps are very hard to notice, but keep the sides of the car much cleaner.

Several here run Mobil1, and 5K between changes using a full synthetic will not void your car warranty. Good quality oil of any type will work fine for you, as highway miles are the gentlest type on a car.

I think it's just so you can tell where the button is in the dark without turning on your dome light?

You are correct, it's called ambient lighting.
Very small detail but yet very functional.

Is there a way to change the navigation from displaying how many minutes until you arrive and instead show what time you will get there?

Yep; as Ricko said, it is called ambient lighting. In addition to letting us know where the sunroof button is, it casts a dim, soft glow down over the entire console area. Not bright enough to notice as we drive, but just enough to enable us to see where everything (storage compartments, cupholders, etc, etc) are, in case we need to reach for them.

There are two more of these very soft orange mood-lighting bulbs; one under the front part of each front door armrest, pointed down on the switch that unlocks the doors.

A nice, thoughtful touch from our friends at Nissan.

Unfortunately, no. You only get the estimated travel time. It is a nice feature though that I've had on my old TomTom that I wish we could get in our 7th Gens.

Welcome to the board, nitishh!

Blew my mind that folks would be buying cars in Canada in January. Just be glad you live in Toronto. Here south of Atlanta, most folks not living on main thoroughfares have been housebound by thick ice since last Sunday. Even the interstates here have been ghastly, with backups over 15 miles long being stuck for over 24 hours at a time.

We edged above 32 degrees today for the first time in many days. Most everything (including stores and schools) had been closed, but a few things (but not schools) began to open up again today, although most side streets around where I live are still impassable. We expect the temp to fall to around 12 tonight.

I told my wife we might as well be living in Canada, where at least they have snowplows, and a little road-clearing sometimes takes place.

I understand Maximas cost a lot more in Canada. By 'a lot more', I have heard Canadian Maxima prices exceed prices usually paid in the U.S., even after the currency exchange rate is factored in. Were you able to get a deal you felt was fair?

I agree they cost more than what we could get them for in the US. Taxes in (tax is @ 13%) I got it for 44k . may not be the best price but I am usless at bargaining . I loved the car and wanted one since they came out . I have allways been a Nissan person . Altima + Sentra and Now the Maxima .

I am looking to tint the windows once that is done i will post some pic.

I hear that the US has been hit with bad weather . We are going to have some preety nasty weather ourselves here its going down to 1 F today . Hope it gets better for you folks .

You need to approach buying by ignoring the MSRP, window stickers, etc, and obtaining the LIST price for the car you want. Lisy price is available on lots of car sites such as Edmunds, etc. Then factor in the 'dealer holdback', and you know about what the dealer REALLY paid for the car.

The MSRP on my loaded (Premium, nav, etc) Maxima was right at $40,000, but I researched the list price, then submitted a written email offer for $34,600 to my dealer's internet manager, and she accepted very quickly, because I have dealt only with her for almost 15 years, and she knows I will not budge from what I offer.

I have owned nothing but Maximas since Oct 1984, and drove Datsuns (Nissan called their vehicles Datsuns until 1984) before that. I have loved all my Datsuns and Maximas.

Thanks. I'm also shocked that the ETA doesn't estimate better. It always says it will take much longer than it really does. Garmin, TomTom, etc. are much better at estimating the time and adjusting your ETA when you speed or are in traffic. Our system must not "learn" our driving styles. I tried playing with the manual override settings for speed in the nav settings but ended up leaving it on default, even though I'm not happy with it.

Great method, but your terminology is confusing. List price is MSRP or Retail. You are talking about invoice or wholesale prices.

I agree with dealing with internet managers. Car buying is much easier than what people make it out to be. Come up with a fair price for both parties, tell them you are ready to buy, and submit the offer. They jump on it every time as long as it is reasonable.

Truecar.com did most of the work for me, even with a trade. It carved away all of the fat from the MRSP and puts the dealers up against one another. Just set your realistic target price and be ready to buy if you get it.

Is anyone else having trouble downloading and saving their bluetooth phone directory to the onboard one? I have succesffully connected a Blackberry Torch, and go through the motions to DL the list including starting the procedure with my phone but when I come back it's gone. Am I missing a step? I've tried using both the manual and auto download, BTW. Thx.

I have never been able to get my Iphone address book, or older HTC tilt to sync up and transfer the phone directory. I had to hand-type it all. But then I just put in my most used numbers. Because I still have my "master" contact list in my Iphone.

Thx Max_Sam...validation is a soothing experience.

If use use the "Phone Button" I can't always lock on to my BB Torch phonebook, but if I use voice recognition it works every.painstaking.step.by.step.time. I've been slowly uploading numbers directly into the onboard phonebook, so soon I won;t need to worry about this.

In case you did not know, you can dial a number using voice recognition faster by pressing the voice button on each screen to keep from having to listen to the lady read the choices.

No problem. I was happy when I found it. Now if I can just get the nice lady to stop thinking I said "back" when I actually said "phone".

Yay, first post! Soon to be a Maxima driver here. A question to the the few people that have had steering wheel problems, or are familiar with them for the 7th gen. I'm thinkin' of buying an '09 that has had the steering wheel replaced. Has anyone here had multiple problems with their steering wheels, or should I not even worry about it since it now has a new one?. Any and all suggestions appreciated!

GPS bypass

Hello, new to the forums. I have the brand spankin' new 2011 Maxima and she's gorgeous. However, I cannot find anywhere how to do the DVD bypass to watch DVD's while in motion? Any help here? A software or boot up disc would be preferred over changing wiring or voiding warranties. Thanks

Anyone know if you can pay the dealership to put in the tech package if you have an SV and wanted to upgrade?

I'm pretty sure it's doable but not only the cost would be astronomical but I doubt a dealer would be willing to venture into such endeavor.

For instance, if the numbers say '8 of 15', that tells us that eight of the fifteen songs on this CD have been stored.

If you stop and turn off the ignition before the ten minutes needed to store the whole CD, no problem; just push the RECORD display again when you start the car back up, and it will continue storing the CD from the song it was storing when you turned the ignition off.

As for deleting, I haven't done that yet, but I definitely remember the manual saying you can delete individual songs.
That is correct for deleting songs off of musicbox, However I am trying to figure out is the ipod part of it, i can play the songs off the ipod but i cant figure out if there is a way to record the music from the ipod to the music box, does anyone know if this can even be done.

I'm interested in more information about the 7th Gen 18" wheels to put on my g35 sedan. I'm having trouble finding anything on them. I know there's a set for sale in the classifieds, but would like to see additional pics, specs etc on them if ya'll can point me in the right direction. I'm pretty sure they're 18x8 w/ offset of 40? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. These are the wheel intersted in:

Thanks,

AFAIK, you cannot extract music from the iPod/ Audio DVDs / USB drive into the music box; the only approved/working method is directly from CDs.

Nope no iPod to Music Box recording. The RIAA would consider that activity as stealing music.

Yeah I had the same problem as I think a Zune won't get recognized, but will only charge. I was thinking of doing the same thing.
