I just recently bought a 2010 nissan maxima 3.5 sv and I was wondering what mods I could do to it to make it a little quicker and look and sound nice. I am not looking to race it in quarter miles I just don't want it to be slow on the road. Any suggestions would be great.

I searched the forum for this but didn't find anything on this. I have Push To Start (2011 Maxima Prem-Tech). I have dealer installed remote start as well.

My question is if I pull up to the 7-11 and jump out to buy a newspaper and leave the engine running and I take the fob with me can someone jump in my car without the fob and drive away with it?

My remote start in my previous car with key start had the ability to put the car back into remote start mode once I had driven it by hitting the remote start button with my foot off the brake. It would chirp and I could remove the key and leave the engine running and if someone jumped into the car once they stepped on the brake it would shut off.

I asked the tech at the dealer during my last service about that but his answer was the car could be driven without the fob as I described above but would eventually shut off, he had no idea how long after the car was driven away without the fob. That doesn't sound right to me.

Any thoughts?

yes it is possible. i have driven short trips without having my key fob on me and i got screwed when i realized after i had turned the engine off im not sure about it turning off after a while but it is definitely possible to drive without the fob. i dont have remote start so when i go to my car to warm it up then go back to my house the car makes two beeping sounds twice right after you close the door. the best thing to do if ur going to run into a store quick is to turn the engine off because i wouldnt risk it. but if you really feel the need to keep the car running then lock the doors with the key fob even though the engine is running and make sure the doors are locked. but again i dont reccomend leaving ur car running going into a 7-11 because believe it or not thats where alot of cars get stolen from and in the exact same circumstances where a guy was running in quick into the store and left the car running and someone jumps in and takes it.

That's what I thought. Not to mention you don't get the driver's seat and steering wheel moving when you leave the car with the engine running.

I'll just turn it off and re-start it with the remote while I'm in the store to be safe.

Thanks

OBD II

Folks, I recently bought a 2009 Maxima and I would like to connect to the OBDII port. I have spent days searching for the best way to do this but I have come to only one conclusion. That is that wifi would be the most convenient and universal way to do this on many platforms. ie..linux,win,android,apple, etc.
With that said, what is the best platform/software that will allow me to connect and output video also? I want to feed the video back via AUX in.
I would like to connect and decode the ECU, SRS, and any other network within the car.

Tks, Hobo

I have been told that it will continue to run basically as long as you don't shut it off so yes someone could jump in an drive off with your car

That is exactly correct. The engine will continue running until the gas tank is empty, but once stopped, it cannot be restarted without a key or keyfob.

Any time I see someone gassing up without turning off the engine, I get the tag # and a descriptionj of the car and driver, because thers is a chance the car has been stolen.

If you check the Nissan web site, one of the items we get by stepping up from the S to either the S-LE or the SV is outside mirrors with integrated turn signals.

Are you sure you don't have either the SV, or an S-LE (S with the Limited Edition Package)?
Maybe I have the S-LE. I have the nissan black stock wheels, 18", side blinkers, a mini body kit (minus the front end but im not even sure if its a body kit...probably mud gaurds?? but they dont hang down too low). I know I don't have wood, navi, and my sun roof does not go all the way to the backseat.

You are brave. Exhaust systems are very hot, and gasoline fumes are very explosive. But then modern pumps and nozzles are much better than those back in the 1940s thru 1980s. Most fumes are now blocked from escaping into the air.

Many pumps still have a warning to turn off the engine before pumping gas, but that may be mostly left over from olden days. When I was young, it was not uncommon for fires to start at fuel pumps. Especially if gasoline was spilled underneath the car and the motor was running (keeping the exhaust system at peak temperature).

I don't notice trucks with their engine running at the pumps as much as I do nice or flashy cars.

We can determine this fairly simply:

Since you don't have wood interior and back seat sunroof, you don't have the Premium.

Since you don't have 19" wheels/tires, you don't have the Sport.

Since you DO have turn signals on the outside mirrors, you don't have a base S.

So, if you have cloth seats, you have an S-LE, but if your seats are leather, you have an SV.

In any event, you have a beautiful 7th generation Maxima, which is a fine car indeed.

Seven days with my Max now, SV sport. Earlier in the week, on a colder morning, I decided to test the heated steering wheel. I to my suprise found the button/switch to be absent from the car. Its an option I thought to be there and its also listed on option list.

I brought to the dealers attention and they are now looking into. I am now wondering if this is a easy fix and if theres anything else I should look for that should be there and isnt.

Did I mention that I love this car. Engine sounds perfect. CVT, sweet!

Android has an app named Torque that costs $4. get an OBD-II bluetooth adapter off eBay for $40 and you're set for pulling ECU info and resetting CEL. i have a whole thread about it

custom CAI by FAR. i ran a Takeda short ram and R2C short ram and the custom CAI demolishes them in terms of how loud it gets and definitely has more power

not sure about the bluetooth module, i just got a blackberry stereo gateway thats bluetooth and tucked it in the center console and effectively same result

Anyone have an idea of how much it should cost to paint and install the Stillen rear roof wing?

Star Nissan in queens ny just quoted me a price of $275.00 to paint and install it. Thats not including the price of the actual product.
I know its NY and all but this seems absurdly high to me.

The heated steering wheel is part of the Cold package, the Sport package, the Premium package and the Technology package. Every 7th gen Maxima with any of those four packages comes from the factory with a heated steering wheel. If yours is missing, someone must have removed it.

I may be an exception, but I have the heated steering wheel on almost every time I drive between late October and early May. I used the one on my 6th generation Maxima the same way. With my 5th gen Maxima, which did not have a heated steering wheel, I had my wife drive if the weather was below 70 degrees. As you may have guessed by now, I have extremely poor circulation in my hands. That is not unusual for us very old folks.

If I were you, I would insist on the car having the heated steering wheel it is supposed to have. Of course I feel strongly about this because I will never again consider buying a car without a good heated steering wheel.

After 2 weeks they have decided to look behind the switch panel to see if the wirings are there for the heated steering wheel. I was told that my options after that, if the wires arent there, is to either accept some cash or have them remove the dash and steering wheel to re-wire the car.

Wow! This is a problem I have never seen on Maxima.org before. If the car arrived at the dealer without the heated steering wheel switch, then the repair has to be covered totally by the Nissan Corp.

I would rather have my car arrive at my dealer without the back seat than without the heated steering wheel, because replacing the back seat does not require removing the dash and fiddling with the car's electrical system.

What a mess. I don't like either of the choices they gave you, but I suppose those are the only realistic solutions.

I am not a fan of those choices either. From day three (about 50 miles on the clock) the salesperson has been insisting on a new car. The fustrating part is that I have been back to the dealership 3 times already and have been instructed call nissan help another 3 times, which has been nothing but a run around and involves more than 30mins on the phone, mostly on hold.

The more I think about this, the more it upsets me. Why should you have to spend your time trying to fix a problem that already existed before the car ever arrived at the dealer?

Since it is very clear the problem already existed while the car still belonged to the dealer, I would be tempted to tell the dealer that I wanted the car I paid for, which was one with the heated steering wheel. Unless he installed a heated steering wheel in the car, I would tell him i wanted the car replaced with a new one that was exactly what I was supposed to have gotten.

I guess I am lucky I have a dealer that always takes care of everything for me without even being asked.

Have any of you all bought rubber coverings for your car remote? If so, do you have to take it off before putting it into the slot in the car??

It wouldn't fit in the slot with the rubber cover on it.

Well hopefully this wednesday I will have a solution to my problem, they'll finally have a tech take a look at it.
