Wheel Spacers For Rear Wheels?

Was thinking of some wheel spacers for the rear wheels. Maybe anywhere from 5-10mm to make the rear a little more bulky since the rear fenders pop out a bit. Do you think its a bad idea, will it affect the ride in anyway and how big of a spacer can I get before I have to change the studs to longer ones. I did this to my 01 clk55 and was very happy with the results but did need to buy bigger stud/bolts. Any feedback is appreciated.
