Show us your tints!
Had my tints done today. 38% front, 18% sides and back. I'll post pics in near future.
Thanks for all the info in this thread and on this forum, as a newbie, it's been an incredible resource.

I had 20% front windows and 5% back windows for a bit but had to take out the front tints because i got like 2 tickets within a week for tints here in NYC. The laws we got here are 70% light for front windows... i know mad gay. so yea now i ride with factory tints in the front and 5% in the back cause i got no pba cards... wack

Looking at what I want for my tint, and found out something interesting today:
I live in UT where the back windows and rear can be as dark as you want, but the front windows can only be 50% and nothing on the front windshield. But...
...there is an exemption for skin cancer. I have stage III melanoma (5 years clean), and apparently there's a form that I can have my doctor fill out and then I turn in to the highway patrol. That'll allow me a significantly darker tint on my front windows at least. Don't know yet how dark, but I'll post after I get everything submitted. And it'll be totally legal.
I know there are a lot of people out there with a dermatologist that has removed "suspicious" moles, so, it's just an idea for those of you who are restricted for how dark you get your tint. Don't know what's allowed elsewhere, but I was happy to learn about that for where I live.
I'll post pics in a week or two after I get the tint! I'm thinking 15% on everything but the windshield!

Hey fellas,
I am trying to find the legal % for GA. I found the following site, but it has a % limit for "light going in" and another one for "reflection". When you guys talk about the percentage, which are you referring to?

So the numbers people are quoting are the film ratings, not the end result?
I did the math, and I need 40% tint to give 28% end result given the 70% factory tint that's there already. 27% is my state's cutoff, so this is what I've come up with.
Are all windows 70% from the factory? I had a tint guy take a reading, but all he got was the driver's window. He didn't check either windshield or the rear windows.

Could also be that the reflection you're talking about has to do with the amount of heat being reflected. I know when I got mine tinted there was a % for how dark visibly the film was, and then another % for how effective it is at reflecting the heat.

For example when I say I have 35% tint on my side windows I am just talking about the film it should meter around 28% I live in PA so cops really dont bother you unless your car has limo tint which is 5%. And yes the % is the amount of light transmission the film lets through..
I need to find a shop that will meter all my stock windows (not just 1), so I can plan this out better.
Hmmmm, interesting. Have you had yours tested after the tint? Mine is 70% stock (at least, that's what I remember it being), so if I went 35%, it should be about 24%, not 28%. To get 28%, I need 40% film...which is my goal.

If there was no light lost by my factory windows, I could put 35% or even lower, down to 27%. But I assume the glass itself isn't 100% efficient. Some light is lost, I think even the windshield couldn't be more than 95%.
Anyone who gets away with 20% tint in sc is merely getting away with it. It's not legal.
So my plan now is to get my windows tested again, and then tested with a tint sample on all windows.
I need 27%, but I am starting with 70%. I had a tint shop measure my factory glass and I recall it as 70%. Perhaps I forgot, or perhaps their light meter needs calibrating.

Based on my calculations, I need 40% film to get to 28% VLT. I've already stated that I'll get it tested again, as the VLT meter used could have been off, as could my memory. I hope you're right about the 35% as I think it's more common than 40%.
I hear what you're saying, but I think we should stop thinking about this in terms of the VLT rating for the film. The VLT rating on the film is irrelevent. The end result is what's important...and as long as I can get at or above 27%, I am good to go.

I have 35% all around, except the windshield. Given my state law, this is illegal, but the darkening is not drastic enough to attract attention from LEO. With a white exterior and black interior, it does not look completely different from stock. Or maybe the local PD has better things to do.
I see it as a nice compromise, but I would have gone to 15% if it was allowed.

[QUOTE=Eddie 70;8674968]Got mine done today. 18% all around with a sunshade on the front. Cell phone pics are all I have at the minute.
I like your car with that tint. I almost bought same color of car including the sport package but instead i went silver.

Thanks Newbie. I think the silver looks good too. The only silver the dealer had left have everything I wanted.
