Loose Wheel Nuts

Ok so I had to go to the dealership because my Tire Pressure light came on. They took my car and checked it out and turns out I had a nail in my inner side wall so the tire not repairable at that point. I had a tired that was previously on the car that I took off of as well as the old rim because I took alittle bit of the rubber off when i scrapped so I put that tire back on.

The rim that was and still is on my car was bent which is y my car has been vibrating at highway speeds so I took my car to an Alloy Wheel Repair guy to straighten my wheel out. He jacked the car up and went to go and take the nuts off and 3 out of the 5 were completely loose and took no pressure to take the nuts of at all. Needless to say I was extremely pissed although very happy that that was caught before I was doing 80 on the highway and the freaking nuts fell off causing me get crash.

Wow. I'm very glad you caught this on time! Didn't a similar thing happen to MaxDout?

You would think they would double check this but I have seen it over and over again...Good thing you had it checked right away and no one was hurt!
Drove a bud over to pick up his truck and when we got there it wasn't there....Thet said the guy test driving it had one of the wheels fall off and they had to send another guy over the jack it up and put the tire back on...

After every trip to a service shop that may have touched my wheels in any way, I pull out my torque wrench and reset the lugs to 80 ft lbs. Yes, I know the specs call for 85 ft lbs, but I have used 80 for at least twenty years, and have never had a warped wheel or rotor or vibration. My son uses 70 ft lbs on his TLs with good results, but I feel that is not quite tight enough.

While on this subject, I'm sure those with steel wheels and winter tires are aware lug nuts for steel wheels require higher torque than lug nuts for alloy wheels. We torque to 125 ft lbs on the lugs for steel wheels on our trucks. But steel wheels on the Maxima probably require less torque than that.
