There is no such option on the Maxima 7th Gen. I have the Premuim and it still does not have it. I wish there was a button on the steering wheel for it.

Why not just hit the stereo off button? It's big, within easy reach, and instantly turns off the sound. Seems a mute button would be a little superfluous.

Well, I did come up with some "workarounds" to "kinda mute" from the steeringwheel....
1. I recorded 10 mins of Silence to my Compact Flash...when I press the mode button on the steering wheel to select the CF I can listen to 10 mins of silence.
2. For my premium I can press the voice recognition button twice...It isn't instantaneous and you do get the "Voice Recognition Cancelled" prompt but after that, no more music!

Personally, I use the On/Off button as wether I am listening to my IPod, CD, CF or MusicBox it will resume where I left off when I re-engage.

When on the bluetooth phone, of course you just cursor down and press enter to mute the phone.

My car a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix before I got the Maxima had a mute button on the steering wheel controls.
