Sticky point of acceleration

I know this thread was some place else before but i didn't/wasn't able to find it. For the lst two weeks or so i've noticed if i press hard on my gas pedal theres a certain point where theres a sticking feeling. It gets to the point and you have to give a bit of an extra push to press past. I always get nervous when this occurs as i wonder when i let go of the accelerator if the pedal will come back up properly.

Does anyone know what this resistance is? I feel like it happens when the pedals about 3/4 to fully being pressed. Its been consistently happening when i press down for full acceleration.

My '09 does this too. I assumed it was kind of a feedback to let you know.. ok, you want 290 horses, here they come... vs. your typical softer acceleration.

No worries. It is a feature to let you know that you are about to hit the point where the throttle is wide open.

The sticky point is pretty cool. I never really pass it though, because at the point right before it, the car is already flying. I've hit 120+ without hitting the sticky point.

Definitely a nice way to let the driver know the situation. I am not a wide-open-throttle kind of driver, so I have appreciated this feature.

I got into it a few times, the car has more power and pulls hard to the right when it go's beyond the stick point, especially from a stand still...

it's not. push your foot to the floor, live a little. Where it "sticks" is for the soccer moms.

Somewhere here on the first page of the 7th gen board is a thread describing a programming change Nissan dealers will make (on request) to the control unit of your CVT that gets rid of the sluggish start. If you look around here, you should be able to find it.

EDIT - I found it. Check out post # 725 by alan s on page 19 of the 'Official CVT vs Manual Transmission Thread.'

wow i never knew that, ill ask one of the techs here as im at work now, the reason i made that comment was because on my 06 altima 3.5 wot only opened the throttle plate 80% you need a technosquare ecu reprogram to open it up all the way. shame on me for not knowing they adjusted that in the max

After you have driven your car for awhile after this change, we expect an honest and unbiased report on how it affected your car's performance. I suspect we will have quite a few here considering this change, and they will be waiting to hear your results.

Is this seriously a "Feature" or a "problem"?

I'd say it depends on what you expect or want out of your car.

For those willing to drive in the manner envisioned by Nissan to squeeze a fraction of a mpg more, it's a feature.

For those who don't want to have to all the time drive it like they hate it to get acceptable throttle response, a PITA.

You know which it is to you.

I do wonder how well obtaining quicker tip-in response will play out under low-traction/poor grip conditions, though. Hopefully you still have good ability to modulate how responsive it is.

I hope that somebody posts some impressions under other than dry/clear/straight line acceleration conditions.

Nissan is just fixing the light shudder at 15-17 mph under light throttle, right? Sounds like the fix just slows the progression of the CVT and keeps in lower ranges a bit longer. Remember when the shudder was deemed normal and blamed on anti-lock self-check?

If it cures the shudder, it is worthwhile and any other performance benefits will be a bonus.

We need to be careful here. This thread is now discussing TWO TOTALLY UNRELATED THINGS.

The thread began by discussing the artificial resistance point ('sticky throttle') Nissan has on the accellerator system of the 7th gen Maxima. That feature is what it is, serves a purpose for those who know how to use it, and the discussion here in no way suggests any method of changing that feature in any way.

Then the thread also began to include discussion of the fact Nissan dealers can change the software for the CVT in order to enable full power to the CVT from a standstill start (under full or partial throttle, the OEM software holds power to the CVT down somewhat until the speed is around thirty to forty MPH).

We may need to specify which of these two unrelated topics we are addressing in any further posts in this thread.

I will definitley post my opinions. This car is already fast, but I heard that this re-flash makes the car that much better. Can't wait.
