Heated Steering on S Model
Heated Steering on S Model
While I'm not a fan of leather seating, I would love to have the heated steering wheel option as Jersey gets quite chilly. From what I gather the steering wheel is the same across models. Anyone know if its a simple/inexpensive thing to add the relay and switches etc to get the wheel to heat up?
That's a good question. When I was hardwiring my RD earlier, I noticed that my S retains the fuses for heated seats and a heated mirror. Perhaps that bodes well for finding a disconnected lead somewhere in the steering column.
What you gotta think about is would it cost Nissan more money to design the same steering wheel without the heating technology function for the S Model or design them all the same and install them in the S Model but not charge the amount for it because all the wiring and buttons are not there.
The 370Z, Juke and Maxima all have the same design steering wheel yet I don't think that is an option in the 370Z or Juke(I may be wrong) so if all the steering wheels were the same then they're putting Heated Technology Steering Wheels in all of them yet not charging for them.
Idk...my guess is that the S Model does not have a Heated Steering Wheel
Well, here's a start. The S Model steering wheel is alot cheaper then the SV. Half the price.

Thanks guys. Managed to dig up some more info. Looks like you are correct, there is a different steering wheel for the cold package. Courtesy has it listed for around $250
Someone on a BMW forum had the same idea and found that the wheel was in fact pre-wired. If the fuse holder had a fuse in it for heated steering, the wiring was there also. Guy just swapped out steering wheels added relay and switch.
While this is technically beyond my ability I know there are people here who are more than capable of doing it if its possible.
Here is a link to the BMW forum which has a step by step PDF with photos if anyone is interested. (PDF is about 5 posts down)
