09 w/ 4k miles, steering wheel problem

My co worker has the power steering wheel. Her steering wheel will tilt up and down but it wont telescope in and out. I can hear noises when i try to telescope the wheel but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a warranty situation. I seem to recall seeing this problem here before with the 7th gens. I know the steering wheel up/down operation has had a few problems. I think something was not tight enough, and parts got too far apart for the gears to mesh. But I'm not absolutely positive about problems with the telescoping action. At any rate, this is something that will probably require dealer work.

I thought I saw a TSB on this at one time. My Telescoping wheel stopped just after the extended warranty period. Up/down continues to work. They were asking about 800 to repair so heed Light's advice and take it in now.

yeah i agree, i believe the 09's had some issues with that. I would go to the dealer like the guys said above and get it fixed now before the warranty expires. Let us know what they find out too.
Good luck

I just got back from the dealership and I have been feeling/hearing a rubbing noise while turning and when I get in and out of my MAX, the steering wheel squeaks when it adjusts up/down. The service dept. said they were unable to find my issue, so they just acknowledged TSB and ordered me a new motor for the steering column.

Update: Found this TSB

  • IF YOU CONFIRM The steering column power adjustment (tilt or telescope) does not work or makes abnormal noise when operating the switch. ACTION Replace the adjustment motor (tilt or telescope) with the one listed in the Parts Information. NOTE: Do not replace the entire steering column when replacement of a tilt or telescope motor will solve the incident, if it should occur. See this bulletin for further detail.

maximakid06 - Thanks for the reference. I printed it and put it in my Maxima troubleshooting file, just in case. Please let us know how this turns out.
