Has any 7th gen'er done the exhaust cutout? I heard this on a 6th gen maxima at the last meet in socal and it sounded really nice. It sounded like a beast!!! The option to turn it on and off was a bonus as well.

If a 7th gen has this done, can you upload video/sound of it.

thanks

He's talking about an exhaust cut out which is basically a very small y-pipe that incorporates a butterfly valve (see pic below). When the valve is closed, all exhaust is routed the normal way though the cats, resonator, mufflers, etc. When the valve is open, the exhaust gasses bypass all of these restrictions. You definitely gain some power by having the valve open, however this is HIGHLY illegal for street use. I've only seen these on V8 camaros and mustangs before. Open pipe V8's sound absolutely amazing. Can't say the same for a 3.5L V6

I've heard cutouts on just about every cylinder count. Cutouts on any motor less than 8 cylinders just doesn't sound right to me. But if you like the way it sounds, nobody is gonna stop ya!

lets wait and see/listen to...i heard it on the 6th gen maxima and it sounded really good...i've never heard this on any other car so nothing else to compare it too...i'm sure it sounds really good on a motor with 8 cylinders

So which location would be the best on a 7th gen to place the cutout? I bet placement will also affect how it sounds. Maybe after the resonator, and maybe before it right after the y pipe?

You're right. If it's after the resonator, definitely going to sound smoother. Before the resonator and it's going to be very raspy with a lot of "crackle-pop" on the overrun.

Technically you could remove the resonator and have the e-cutout in place of it. You can place it anywhere in the exhaust stream where there's enough room between parts (i.e. between cats and resonator, resonator and mufflers).

I was toying with this idea with the shop that handles my custom work but I might just have a custom bolt on muffler delete made which would connect a set of straight pipes with custom tips in replace of the stock muffler and tips

I have a friend that owns a 2009 Z06. The stock car comes with a valued exhaust. I don't have the details, but the car is set to open the valve when the engine hits 3500 RPM. He's got an after market switch that opens the value. I've been thinking about this since. I like the stock exhaust the Max but I find I want more when playing in the car, but I don't always want a loud exhaust. When you say bolt on delete--is this just a muffler or are you talking about a manual value that you'd set?

it would be loud all of the time being that there would be no muffler and simply a piece of straight pipe in its place.
