Bought a new Max

Well its been about 7 years since I posted anything on this forum. Anyway, I bought a new Maxima a couple days ago. I like the car so far, its pretty smooth and seems well put together. The last Maxima I had was a 2003 SE with a manual trans. I'm not sure I like the CVT yet (wish they would have just used a normal auto), but I'm warming up to it... slowly... lol.

congrats. i love the cvt. you can always drive it in sport mode if you wanna hear/feel the transmission act like a normal transmission.

grats on the new purchase man! yeah i was a little iffy about the CVT at first, once you get used to it you'll learn how to tame it.

Congrats on your new purchase!!!

It's just a matter of time until you get use to the CVT.

Thanks guys! I tried driving with the CVT in "sport" mode but not messing with it at all, and it does seem to do a fairly convincing job of acting like a standard transmission. Thats cool...

you'll see, one of the best time for a cvt is when on highway at 40 miles and now you hit the pedal to the floor. Litterally to the floor, there is some kind of spring feeling when throttle gets around 85-90% but get it to 100%.

This is when it's nice to have a cvt, reving at 6600rpm steadingly till you arrive at the desired speed.......

Agreed. I love merging on the freeway and putting all the slow drivers in my rearview lol.

Congrats on your new ride. You have the color I wanted but could not find last year. Ended up with Dark Slate.

Thanks guys, I nearly bought a gray one that was identical. Before pulling the trigger I asked the manager if I had seen everything just to be sure. He then said they had one more in ocean gray. We walked around for 10 minutes and couldn't find it, then discovered it finally out back by service after asking the service guys. Turns out they were just about to do the PDI inspection. As soon as I saw the color, I just said yeah I'll take that one.

I actually went in to buy a 370Z initially. Just wanted a base with the auto. They couldn't find any around here except one, and there were no incentives on the Z's at all. I then asked about the Maxima, and upon hearing of a $3000 rebate, I went for it.

Also, I traded in a 2011 MINI Cooper S turbo. Fun little car, but after 3 service department visits back to the dealer in 4 months and 3600 miles, I got pissed. I will NEVER buy another MINI or BMW product again. Only lost 2k on it for doing the trade, which could have been way worse.

ALmost got an Ocean Grey Sport! That color with the gunmetal sport wheels has to be one of the best combos for this car.

Good luck with the new car. This is my first cvt also and after almost 3 months it's beginning to feel almost normal to me now.

Congrats on the new ride! As a current owner as well I can tell you, you will be very pleased. You're lucky Shift_Max hasn't seen this thread yet and come in with a "Congratulations but....." statement.

u know we have a winner when the a35 matches up to b7 wheels better than it does the actual b7

Don't worry the CVT will grow on you especially with the sport mode. The best way to experience it is under an over pass or tunnel of a least 100feet or so. GIVE HER HELL with the windows down and radio off. The sound, especially with that quick reving and quick shifting CVT in sport mode, around 30-40mph is simply AMAZING. Its the best part of the work day (driving home and hearing that sound makes the whole day that much better, and its something that I look forward to).

The big question becomes, after the new car feeling wears off...whats your first mod going to be?

my favorite is flooring it from a 30-40 mph "rolling start"...this thing just MOVES. the most frequent comment i get from friends/coworkers who've ridden in it is "wow that thing has some power doesn't it?" or somethin like that.

but trust me, coming from someone who really didnt like the CVT at first it definitely grows on you. cruising 70 mph @ 1700 RPMs barely making a sound def gotta keep an eye on the speedometer cause very often i find myself going faster than it felt like i was goin...

I must be more of an attention *****, I didn't really dig the sedate color choices for 2011. (though I do like the blue above)

I went with Crimson Black, but I would have preferred something with more flair, like the blue or orange that they offer on the Z. (Full disclosure, I am coming from a flame red SRT4.)

I guess Nissan didn't want their flagship to look like a rolling carnival ride.

Thanks guys! The main thing I remember about my 97 5-speed is that it was REAL smooth engine-wise and easy to bounce off the rev limiter. The 03 6-speed was similar and pretty quick overall. I know I surprised many coming off a stoplight in that thing when a lane was merging or whatever. This new one doesn't seem as smooth as the older ones, but its deceptively quick (feels like you're going slower than you are). All in all, its a real nice car and I'm pleased with it so far. Its been sitting in the garage for almost two weeks though as I have been on vacation...
