Hit concrete parking stop - question about undercarriage

I pulled ina lil fast and hit the undercarriage of my maxima on a concrete stop. I looked under neath and it missed the bumper but hit these two metal pieces on teh undercarriage. They actually look like square metal tubing with teh tops cut off (so its only 3 sided, no top) and they are slightly angled downward. I can see I hit them because the metal is scartched. Can anybody tell me what these are and if i shoudl be concerned . It wasnt a hard hard hit but it jolted the car. Are theymade to protect the car from these things? Thanks in advance.

Funny and wrong as I'm sure we have female members in this forum.

longisland09maxima - I say take a photo of it so we can all see what you're looking at. I had this happen to me one time when i forgot I was parked in a spot with a little pothole - I soon as i started the car, I rolled forward and hit the parking stop - sounded bad but everything looked good and in tact when i got home - didn't look under the bumper long enough to see what you were talking about.

That's what she said?

In all seriousness though, definitely snap a picture of the damage. I think I know where you're talking about, but a pic will definitely help clarify.

That's what it sounds like to me. Little metal U-bars.

I don't think the Maxima has those. I thought on the Maxima the tow hook was in the middle of the bumper (hence the square on the right side). I may be wrong, never got it towed before, but on another car of mine, thats where they pull the car.

I scrubbed that part on mine, no big deal, move on, I also bottomed out my underbody on the inner passenger rail, pulled off the road to pick my buddy up when his car stalled and when I pulled back onto the road, I grinded on the curb, no big deal

Two different things here. The towing hook in the front bumper is for pulling the car out of a ditch and/or onto a flatbed wrecker for transport. The bars underneath help protect the underneath part of the car, and can be used for attaching the car to an auto rack for transport (can be either a highway autorack trailer or a railroad autorack car).
