Can you put thicker tires on the stock 19" rims?

I was wondering, the Maxima comes with stock 245/40R19 tires, does anyone know what happens if/can you put 245/45R19 tires?

I know its a newb question but is it even possible and if it is, any mods need to be made? I'm tryna get extra padding on my rims, pot holes are killing me

The only problem you'll run into is that your speedo will be off by a few mph due to the slightly taller tire. Tire Rack has plenty of choices for 245 45R 19 tires.

Will it be less or more? I assume it will show it less?

Your speedo will be a bit slower than the actual speed you're going. Probably 2-4 mph slower is a safe bet.

And there shouldn't be any problem with well wall interference right? difference btwn 40 and 45 is 5mm if I'm not mistaken?

I can't say 100% that you won't have any rubbing issues, mainly when the steering rack is at full lock. Unless you drop it, I seriously doubt you'll have any clearance issues.

I went from stock the 245/40/19 to 255/40/19. I feel I corner a little better. The car feels planted to the ground. Ride too is more subtle and when I change lanes, I hardly feel the lane-dividers. It looks good too.

I know another member who has done the same too with the stock 19s.

Read my thread and check out the pics.

Welp if your speedo shows slower speed I'm guessing also your odometer will also clock less miles (sweet). It would be small, but I'd bet that adds up to a lot over time.
