Ipod interface install

I have aquestion for the members here, I have a 2012 Maxima S, so no Ipod hook up, I'm getting one installed tomorrow. Here is my question....where should I get the plug coming out, the glove box or the center console, or any other ideas? Thanks.

I ended up getting it installed in the center console and I'm happy that I did.

How did you manage to install the wire through the center console?? Did you remove the whole thing and drill a hole?? I bought one and I'm still figuring how to install it.

I didn't install it myself, in my teenage years I did enough installs so I pay people to do them now. Yes, they drilled a small hole in my center console and ran it through there. Not sure if they had to take everything out or was able to run it without doing that. All he told me is the "unti" itself is on the drivers side under the dash, basically where your feet are. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but for $60 to have it installed was good for me not having to do it myself.

I'll take your idea and make Nissan install it instead... Hope they don't over charge me like they did with my spoiler...

If I were you, just go to best buy and purchase isimple ipod kit. I installed it myself and it was easy but time consuming cause it was the first time I took apart my interior. But if you want a faster install, just have geek squad do it.

USA Spec is the way to go. It is plug and play and allows full controls from either the IPhone direct or thru the head unit.. I bought mine on line from the guys at Ipodcarpros.com. I went to best buy and the tech charged me $50.. Took him about 45 mins in and out

USA Spec is the quick, cheap, and easy way...definitely wouldnt let the dealership do it. You could either pay someone the $50-85 to do it, or just spend a few frustrating hours and do it yourself. I always feel better about a project when I do it myself.

To my knowledge, all iPods (except for the earlier shuffles), iphones, ipads..all use the same 30 pin connector. Apple always does well with legacy, so older iProducts almost always work on devices made for newer models, however the converse is not always true with apple products.

I Have found that the stock setup on my 2009 Premium Package equipped Maxima, does play the music from the Iphone 4 and Iphone 4S. It however does NOT charge it. Those with later model year Maximas may report different results.

My iPhone4 charges in my 2010. Pandora also works but only when music is playing from the iPod first. After that, fire up Pandora and the iPod music will pause while Pandora is playing.

If you don't have any music on your phone, the factory stereo will report that no music files are found and will not play anything - even Pandora. Now, that's just my personal experience; not sure about anyone else.

^ tested it yesterday and its plug and play, dont need to have anything playing and dont need to have any music/iTunes going on. Just plug in and turn on Pandora or any other app that streams...works like a charm...
NOW, can anyone figure out how we can get it to charge along the way? I mean how much different is the pin layout for iPod vs iPhone?

In case folks are wondering. The 2009 models used a special custom cable from Nissan for the car to the Ipod/iphone connection. From 2010+ on, you can use a regular Ipod USB cable. So that is why us 2009 folks can't charge their Iphone4s and newer devices.

Please do, can't wait. I tried a Scosh branded adapter that charged it, but then would not let the music play. So it's a case of audio playback or battery charging but not both at the same time, for us 2009 folks.

Correct, and i have the iPod?apple interface cable that plugs not into AVI connections but into a special port in the center console. Now apparently Nissan is aware of this new "incompatibility" issue and they have a solution.

got a call from nissan, going to check out what they have...meanwhile i found these and these shoudl work:
http://www.amazon.com/Peripheral-IS7...511979&sr=8-15
http://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Chargin...7512108&sr=8-9
http://www.amazon.com/CableJive-dock...7512126&sr=8-1

The first one clearly states compatible with Nissan and converts old 12V charge to new 5V.

so this is what the Nissan dealership sold to me
http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-passPO.../dp/B001HN6CVA

i have bought it and tried it...it does charge...and it does do everything it says...
Perhaps the only nit pick i have is that it does have a bit of distortion going through when you are running the music through it...
Let me know if anyone is willing to try other ones that i found, i plan to buy the wire (#1) above...just to see if the distorton is minmized

Ipod Adapters

Hey eesjunin, I was curious if you purchased that usb adapter cable and if it minimized the distortion you were hearing? I'm wondering if we are hearing the same thing?

I picked up a 09 Max SV Sport and I have a 4th gen ipod nano and it doesn't charge. From reading many threads here, I purchased a Scosche adapter and it works pretty well. My ipod now charges but I hear a whine through the speakers when using it, if I pause the music, the whine is still there so I'm looking for alternatives to the scosche adapter.

Thanks for the links for the products, I am probably going to by a different adapter and see if the issue continues...

Ipod connect

I have a situation I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with. I have purchased three different ipod audio harnesses for my 2009 maxima with premium audio, no navigation. None of the cables seem to work properly. When I plug the harness into my ipod I should see the nissan logo on the ipod screen, what I get is "ok to disconnect" and the apple logo. I've tried several ipods/iphones with the same result. At this point I'm thinking there maybe a problem with the wiring connection to radio. Can anyone help?

Hey,

I know this thread is really old but just in case anyone is still active here I need to ask a question. When you plugged your iPod in for the first time was there anything you had to do for it to work? Did you have to go through settings and accept something or did it just automatically connect? Trying to hook up an old iPod Video 5th generation and not having any luck. So I'm wondering what the process was exactly to get it working? Did you just plug it in and press play on the iPod? Did the car take over the controls? Did you have to accept anything on the iPod screen or settings menu? Any help would be appreciated! Hope you are all well! Thanks.
