I got the small opening in front bumper, not sure if it has a hole or not. There is a space in trunk for the hook. Its on the foam insert with car jack on the right side, however I don't have a hook :-(

little door, but no hole in my 2010 either...

So I just bought a preowned 2010 SV and as I was checking the car all out afterwards and I noticed the "missing" tow hook. There's the spot cut out in the foam in the trunk for it to go, but not there.

So I ask the dealer if he could send me one so "I'd have it if I ever needed it". They were nice enough to send me one and when I went to make sure they sent me the correct one (I've had several nissans and they sometimes are slightly different sizes), I popped the little door on the front bumper, BUT NO PLACE TO SCREW IT IT!!! (looks just like the picture another member posted)

OK, so why is the little door there, but no place to screw it in? Where exactly should you place a tow rope if you ever need to get pulled out of a ditch? Oh yea, and why would the dealer send me one if you can't use it?!?!?

Very strange..... I jumped on here thinking maybe my front bumper had been replaced with some aftermarket unit from an accident and found this thread..... I don't get it!

Grog - At some time early in the 2010 production cycle, the towhook thingie was deleted. It seems these hooks were never used by towing companies anyway. The part with threading inside the bumper was redesigned slightly for other reasons, and Nissan took the opportunity to remove the threading. But the bumpers were not in need of redesigning, so Nissan just left the little door there.

I hate that little door opening in the front bumper. It would look so much better without it.

I agree with jspagna.....thats pretty poor by nissan right there. They cheap out by taking out the tow hooks, and cant even start making the bumpers without the little door? I cant stand that little (now useless) door.

I think it would probably cost less to manufacture the bumpers without the little door

Material wise yes, but they'd have to retool that part of the assembly line, QC it all, etc and that would stop production and I'm sure some cost involved. I seriously doubt they would bother to do that for 1 little cosmetic item that was a leftover.

Bet it won't be there on the 8th gens tho.

Yup. Creating molds is very expensive. They would have to make a new mold, then make multiple sets of the production master. Likely hundreds of thousands. Its much cheaper to keep the existing mold and add in the little cover until the entire design changes.

So wheres the tow point on this vehicle??. I remember a friend with a charger ran off the road into a corn field, the help pulled his car out by the a-arm.

Still no pics??? I was at Bimmerfest '13 and saw a bunch of M's that use the tow hook spot as a mount for their license plate relocator.

most 7th gen's dont even have a tow hook location to screw it in, its blank behind the little door.

That blows. I'm about to go check out my little bumper door, I'd really like to relocate the plate with this stillen relocator.

*EDIT* Add me to the list of blown max owners with the empty bumper cutout, smh.

Drill one...

I too was amazed with a door to nothing as I was looking to relocate my plate.

Does anyone know if we can drill a female thread in there? If so what size or where can I find that drill bit to buy?

Thanks.
