Angry Debadging Help!

I just debadged the maxima letters from my 2011 maxima. At the time it looked fine, but after I just got a car wash I noticed you can still clearly see alot of small scratches and still see the letters. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Is there any glue residue left? When you say you can still see the letters, you mean you can still see the outline of the letters in the paint or what?

Funny that you mentioned this, I had the very same problem you had...after debadging the letter residues are clearly shown so this is what I did...

Borrow a buffer machine from a friend or take your car to a paint shop...apply the 3M rubbing compound on to the residues...lightly work the buffer back and forth using a sweeping motion...don't use the edge of the pad but try to center the buffer on to the spot...sweep back and forth a couple time then apply more compound...it'll take those residues out in no time!!!

I just did it last Sunday, works great!!! After you done buffing go wash your car...You can get the stuff below at autozone or oreily by the way...

you can see it more in the paint, I just used some scratch removal and it seems to have helped alot. You can still catch it at the right angle and see the letters though.

How did you remove the letters?

I used fishing line and a hair dryer...I just concentrate the heat at the entry point then slowly zig zag my fishing line in...there aren't any noticeable scratches after I'm removed them...

Were you scraping at it to get the paint off? I just rubbed my finger on an edge to start it and then used a rag and Goo-Gone to get it off. Had no issues. I used dental floss and nothing else (no hair dryer or anything).

they were only small surface scratches from my finger nail. Its barely noticeable anymore after. I could also easily buff them out. I was just worried it was a problem with the paint.

Nah once you remove them and throw some wax on the area that you were working on, you should be good to go. Granted you weren't rough in going about removing the letters. Most of the sticky substance was still on my car just because I wanted to stay as far away from the pain as I could during the process.

My car is about a week old - I want to remove the dealership plate on the trunk. I heard one guy say fishing line and another dental floss. What do you recommend?

Thanks,
GB

dental floss may break since it isnt as strong as finishing line. I always use fishing line but make sure it is heated up so it comes off easy....

It is more annoying when a dealership puts thier own badge on the car. Do they really think I want to advertise their dealership all time? I normally don't debage my car but I always take off any dealer tags.

Just did this to mine...Took the emblem off...Applied some gasoline on the rag and wiped the glue residue right off...Gasoline eats the glue residue..

I guess I did mine the "wrong" way too and ended up with the same scratches. A couple of applications of Meguiar's Scratch-X and Ultimate Compound with my Meguiar's polisher took them right out.

BTW, you have to change your screen name because I have "BLAXIMA" copyrighted.

Did the ceremonial first car wash in the driveway yesterday... With the high temperature outside, I was able to peel up a corner of the dealer tag and it came right off - no residue.

I agree about the dealer tags - I understand why they do it, but it is frustrating. I say have them offer you cash - it's no different than an ad. "We'll take $500 off the sticker if you agree to let us put an ad on your trunk". Then maybe I would consider it. Ha!

I always use doubled up floss and goo gone, no heat and in a cool shaded area. Then use cleaner wax, carnuaba wax and a buffer/ microfiber towel.
